Additionally the third game is meant to be coming out soon. We can only hope after that is released the rest of the series will be patched up and made to not have any progression errors at least.
In this game you start at level 1 or you can import or start a veteran character and start at 30.
Worked perfectly fine for me when I imported two characters to test a patch around 4 weeks or so ago.
Van Helsing 2, and importing characters, did not exist in 2013. The game was released on May 22, 2014. So there's no way you saw posts from 2013 complaining about it.
Additionally, quite a few of the import failure complaints are from users who modified their files, creating one of the "Save File is too Old" bugs. You also can't import saves from pirated copies of either game. So although there have been some legitimate complaints concerning this, which the Neocore tech support are happy to help with, there are also an equal number of complaints where it was strictly user error that they can do nothing about.
It also doesn't help that some users were trying to import from a save back-up folder without having VH1 installed. That flags for the "Save file is too old" as well.
Usually this issue is resolved in legitimate games by simply updating VH1 and VH2 to the most current versions, booting the VH1 up and logging into the character you wish to import, then exiting the game as normal by logging out then exiting. The last two patches for each game have also resolved a couple of bugs which caused errors to imports, so if you haven't attempted an import recently, then you may not be aware of these fixes.
A lot of my friends had this problem and they had both VHI and VHII originals and updated, even went through the tips/solutions provides by devs, still, nothing helped.
I bought the first game couple days ago, finished it, bought the second and can't import saves, and I'm not the only one, there are quite a lot of new threads about this issue - even addressed by devs that they are aware of it but due to finishing VHIII they can't devote time to fix it.
