While I enjoyed the first, I did find the loot lacking, there was no real progression and I rarely found an upgrade, and throughout an entire play through I only saw maybe 3 legendary items which was disappointing, and where was the glowing weapons? In aRPGs I live for my big swords dripping in fire, ice or poison! This genre is all about loot hunting, and I feel Van Helsing could do much better in this regard, will any improvements be made in Final Cut?
Another thing sorely missing is end-game, when I finished the first game I jumped into the hardest scenario which I finished and it didn't yield a single item of worth, so I just closed the game and said "job done" and moved onto VH2. I got the game for 75% off so I felt 15 hours of story was OK for the money, but as a life long aRPG fan I found it strange I had no interest in playing at max level, mostly due to the loot being sparse and not that interesting.
I've only played about 30 minutes of VH2 and I'm noticing an improved UI straight away, and a much more fleshed out skill tree which is nice, and I'm hoping VH3 adds even more improvements, will Final Cut build upon this further?
A short list of things I'd like to see in Final Cut:
- Unique gear sets that stand out aesthetically
- Unique weapons with particle effects
- Better loot progression, early on especially I should always be excited to see loot on the ground, hoping for an upgrade
- Tweaked monster damage, some mobs do virtually nothing while others can insta gib you without warning. I'd like to some mobs buffed and some nerfed
- Improvements to the tower defence sections, I found them entirely too long and honestly boring, and I used to love Warcraft 3 TD MOD
- Tweaked pathing, in general it's fine but going up stairs and ramps can be quite awkward at times
- An online build calculator! A calculator really compliments these types of games and the community would really appreciate it if you made one for us and released it with the game
You'll probably be pleased to know that most of this list is already implemented in VH3, although there is seem to be plans to polish it further in Final Cut. My only gripe so far in VH3 that was on your list is about pathing, so I'm with you on that one. =P Also, I don't expect there to be a calculator, but you never know. Good suggestion there at any rate.
Ah, good to know!
EDIT: I'm happy to see that the loot progression is much better in VH2, I'm actually finding upgrades and legendaries while playing the story! I just got a little giddy over my new cuffs, the -20% CDR makes the class feel so much more fluid and less clunky, and ultimately more enjoyable.
Even if there is a gamepad plugged in, give us mouse controls at least at the main menu, it's a pain to use the gamepad to create a character to unlock the options menu, switch to the options, and find the right button to finaly disable the gamepad....the mouse is still the main input device for PCs, no need to force feed us gamepad controlls ;)
A far better solution would be if both of them would work without changing some setting...you move the mouse, you get a pointer, you push a button, the pointer fades out and the controlls switch to gamepad...this would be a huuuuge improvement.
On another note: in VH2 there is still no tooltip which tell you salvaging wont work if you are under level 30 (also it seems the item level hast to be level 30 too)....this should definitly be fixed in the final cut.
Those are both small things in an otherwise absolute great game, but it can be really annoyning to search through the forums to find out why salvaging isn't working or why the h*ll your mousecursor isn't showing up...
I like the sound of it, you're basically adding new stuff, cutting out the worst parts and joining everything together. I'm currently working through VH2 and the loot progression and loot in general is 100% better than VH1 which I felt lacked in this area, so hopefully in Final Cut you'll be getting upgrades from the very start, especially unique legendaries which change how the class plays which are very fun.
Also, VH1 ran great, 60fps without dips on very high but VH2 does not, it dips way too often for my liking and certain areas cripple the frame rate on my high end PC, will you be making performance improvements for Final Cut? I'm using a 3570k @ 4.5GHz / GTX 970 and I don't think I should drop to 40fps in certain areas, and I don't want to be dipping to 55, 56, 57 etc as it produces a choppy gaming experience.
Finally, will you be having a 75% off sale before Final Cut? I want to pick up VH3 but not at full price (no offence, but it wasn't received well by the community).
I didn't enjoy it at all. I feel that VH2 improves upon it though, I get an Orcs Must Die! vibe from it.
PS; I cannot wait for your 40k game! The hype is real in camp BDK.
