Upcoming update to Serena: New features and fixes

Here's what we're working on for the upcoming date. Thanks to all the kind offers to translate Serena! We will definitely credit you in the game and here in the forums :)

Features:

• New library shelf with more books!
  
• New easter egg!
  
• Support inverted mouse look
  
• Following languages confirmed: Spanish, French, Italian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and more
  
• Release of commented source code

Changes:

• Quit confirmation
  
• Improvement of audio volume levels

Bug squashing:

• Fix for ending sequence on Windows XP
  
• Fix for the inability to leave zooms (i.e.: bookcase)

More fixes may make it to this update. We're not sure about the date but likely within the next two weeks. Stay tuned!

The same as the Dagon engine: MPL 2.0 (Mozilla license).

Will there be a save function in the update? And I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but when is the update planned?

And no, a save feature is not in the list. In a game with the lenght of 1 to 1,5 hours that wouldn't work very well if you would play it in slices, saving would be anyways a unfortunate future.

Save/loading is currently not implemented in the Dagon engine. I guess Serena will support it eventually, but like Primal Fear said, it's really not necessary in such a short game :)

I understand that, but disagree...even though it's so short, something may come up and you'll have to save and come back to it. I pressed escape looking for a save menu about 30 minutes in last night as I had something come up that I needed to leave the game for, and it dumped me straight back to my desktop. I'm wary about startting the game again until the update has been released.

It doesn't take more than 2 minutes to re-examine everything, you already know what he's saying, so just click-click-click until you trigger the next phase, or the phase you reached.

I don't really think save/load is needed.. but the fact that pressing esc exits the game without any kind of confirmation is really something that needs attention. I think it's kinda cool not to have any kind of overlay menus for immersion, but it really raises this kind of pratical issue.

I'm sorry about the slow delivery of this update -- we've been focusing on Asylum these past few weeks, and some improvements that we did also apply to Serena. We already have some translations as well, so the update is definitely happening soon!

Sorry, we don't know for sure. We're currently working to reach an important milestone for Asylum, then we'll surely proceed with the update. It shouldn't be that long :)
