There is a programmed minimum amount of food: One on the third floor of each zone except the vault, and a minimum of one with the merchant in the 3rd zone.
are you sure if you can always survive it though, if you explore that particular floor with meat in wrong way? ie? you explore 90%, but the meat was hidden in the 10% ... my last run was really spot on, i wasnt going back, i kept moving forward .. the only way for me to get faster to meat would be to abandon discovering each floor fully, but then .. i wouldnt know where the meat is hiding so ... RNG
I dunno ... it just seem ridiculous in difficulty .. at this point i am winning Ogre wizards and even Gnome Rogue, i won all classes with Gnome now, all with Fairy, and Human ... Troll i have just one win ... i get sick of dying midgame, without seemingly not even my fault
Yes, if you avoid the shrooms, and play well, you will not run out of food.
The food spawns on guaranteed floors, so make sure you clear those to get it. If you run out, you can either rush to that floor then search, but if you are avoiding shrooms and copntrolling your exploration, it shouldn't be required.
When you are starving, abuse the shrooms as much as possible is another tip.
I think however he ends up, food should always be a major issue for him that changes his playstyle. I think the key to balancing him will be to give him big enough bonuses to offset that.
I don't think the races need to necessarily be balanced with regards to each other (unlike classes). I think the most important thing for races is just that they add some new and interesting way to play the game. I'd like them to be more like a game play modifier.
When/how do you use your food? There is a food on the 3rd floor of every zone except VoY, and one guaranteed with the merchant in the 3rd zone.
A ranged weapon lets you destroy shrooms (except the whip, its bugged). If enemies are going to take it or they block the way I destroy them, otherwise keep the shrooms around for when you are starving.
