Rogue Fable IV

Let Us Build OP Characters Again
I’ve been playing the game since RF3 Flash, with weeks sunk into it. My go-to playstyle has always been building the strongest character possible during the run, so by the end, I’m totally overpowered and can smash everything in the final levels. I also like having a many of items to pick from during the run. From what I’ve seen on the forums, I’m not the only one who plays this way :steammocking:

Justin is purposely making this kind of play harder and harder. He keeps nerfing character power. Take Ogres being able to wield two-handed weapons and shields at the same time that was my favorite feature. Yeah, it was OP, but it was also super fun. Now it’s long gone. The level cap’s been lowered more than once, and during the runs there aren’t enough items to choose from. Honestly, with all the balancing and restrictions, the game’s just not fun for me now. :steamfacepalm:

I think RF4 should let players build OP characters again if they want to. Bring back more options for character development and more items. For those who want a tougher challenge, there’s always ranked mode. And people who like speed-running can still do their thing—having the option to hit Level 16 doesn’t stop someone else from winning with a Level 10 character.

P.S. Some might say I’ve been playing “wrong.” My reply is that it is a still game and the right way is the one that brings me the most entertainment.

I haven't tried RF4 yet, but this is a bit disappointing to see.

If RF3 has a "niche" in the rougelike genre, it might be that it's a little bit on the more accessible side... which is connected to the possibility of having an overpowered build. I would also prefer RF4 to not nerf too much of the fun out of things.

I have just successfully completed another run, and during it, I had just one ring drop, and the merchant also had one ring that was useless for my build. So, after finishing all the zones and killing almost everything, I still had an empty slot for a ring. Furthermore, only three different robes were seen throughout the run, and no armor options were available. The weapon choices were also poor.

Seed?
It's a long Early Access and the difficulty has swung a bit as updates are made. But there are buffs as well as nerfs being implemented.

I think your playstyle is totally valid and bet that it will still be viable in the end.

But ya, it does seem like the merchant has been a bit stingy lately.

IMHO for case of killing Yendor with upgraded basic weapon there may be one guaranted Ascroll on merchant. But you can't eliminate luck from rogue like. You need to make smart way of build in dependance on available skills and items (robe good for dmg and im using it often on melee). Same as outsmarting enemies. I feel pretty strong at end of 90% of my clearing runs. Slaping enemies with 2h lunge, playing pingpong with bosses, spreading freeze, sleep and confusion, making enemies useless with order discord...
Im happy when difficulty is not about kiting evry enemy, same as im happy cause is not free or guaranteed to be mighty.
As Maario said about EA. Adding and testing new things mean oscillating from OP to weak.
Do you remember old flameblast with 20%AP from int? :D
I belive in pleasant difficulty level in final RF4.
