Rogue Fable IV

Best place to learn how to play this game?
Despite failing horribly trying to complete a run on this game, I'm still having a lot of fun. I've mostly be focusing on Rogue, and find ranged a lot easier than melee. My issue is at a certain point I get to a stage where it just seems impossible and I get overwhelmed by the number of enemies, or I start to go up against some that burst me down super fast. I know it's definitely a skill issue on my part, but I'm really not sure what I can do differently. It's not obvious to me at all why I'm hitting a wall and dying every run.

Has anyone made a guide to teach the basics on what I should be attempting to do each run? I've seen a few videos posted years ago but I'm not sure how many of them are relevant still after all the updates to the game.

Thanks in advance for any help or tips you guys have for me.

Random595 has lots of recent videos including a bunch of more guide like ones for various classes.

I'd consider rogue one of the harder classes to win with at least starting out. His kit has a lot of little tricks that need to be taken advantage of to really get the most out of him. Doesn't mean he's less powerful in capable hands just that the skill floor is pretty high.

A low hanging fruit that I think is really common and easy to fix is consumable usage. If your dying with a hotbar full of consumables then that's the easiest thing to look into fixing. Every single consumable is pretty much a guaranteed free fight win.

Another simple one is kiting enemies. This doesn't work everywhere (I've actually made some pretty big efforts to not make it a one stop solution to all problems) but it is still a super vital tactic. If your getting overwhelmed its often best just to retreat back and let the enemies spread out, funnel through chokes, run over traps etc.

There's also this amazing guide which was written for RFIII but is really just a universal guide to traditional roguelikes. Most of this advice would apply to pretty much any game in the genre.

Hey thank you for the reply! Took a look through the guide and did a little research last night, and then I won my first run immediately after with the Rogue. I did get a little lucky I think with the build falling into place and an absurd amount of critical strike damage but was a very solid win. Time to try some of the other classes and see how consistent I can get it now. Thanks again, much appreciated! Keep up the great work on this game!
