I'd consider rogue one of the harder classes to win with at least starting out. His kit has a lot of little tricks that need to be taken advantage of to really get the most out of him. Doesn't mean he's less powerful in capable hands just that the skill floor is pretty high.
A low hanging fruit that I think is really common and easy to fix is consumable usage. If your dying with a hotbar full of consumables then that's the easiest thing to look into fixing. Every single consumable is pretty much a guaranteed free fight win.
Another simple one is kiting enemies. This doesn't work everywhere (I've actually made some pretty big efforts to not make it a one stop solution to all problems) but it is still a super vital tactic. If your getting overwhelmed its often best just to retreat back and let the enemies spread out, funnel through chokes, run over traps etc.
