The first PvP MMOs were hard, it wasn't about the kill but about winning as a group, today's killer chars had no chance there because they were hunted and then quickly stopped playing.
I stopped playing PvP in 2012, it doesn't appeal to me, it's all about the solo kill and nothing more.

Optional pvp could be fine, line press X to challenge or whatever but mmos by design are not competitive. Bads usually like pvp mmo cause they can grind to win, I say go get dumpstered in league of legends, csgo, cod, or whatever else you're afraid of playing and then come back to NMS/LNF.
