If you play NMS, this system is very likely going to mirror that in some way, like with the Hub system.
No Mans Sky:
Single player
Online co-op
Cross platform Multiplayer
Light No Fire:
Single Player
Online Co-Op
Now on a multiplayer server I prefer to have no PVP or have the option to turn it on/off, so why are people concerned about PVP when the game is Co-Op? you will be inviting your friends to your group to explore an empty planet together, you only have yourself to blame for inviting someone toxic to your group.
Multiplayer is just more than one person. That's all it means. It means absolutely nothing else.
If you're thinking games like WoW - that's literally an MMO which means Massively Multiplayer Online. Notice the massively part? It describes the number of people in mulitplayer as being massive.
Any kind of discussion around co-op vs pvp vs pvpve or whatever describes the multiplayer experience and is additive to the original statement of there being more than one player. In this case they listed Online Co-Op, this means a multiplayer game where you play with others cooperatively (no competitive / pvp modes). It also means you have to be online and connected to another player over the internet. Couch co-op or split screen co-op means same computer/monitor.
You can go on a search engine and look up all the category descriptions that steam uses which are standardized and explain what kind of features this game has.
BTW it says NMS is cross platform multiplayer so you will most likely bump into other players from Playstation and Xbox not just PC.
This is absolutely not what multiplayer means. It just means multiple players. It doesn't define how multiple players is handled. 1 is singleplayer, 2 to infinity is multiplayer.
That actually is what multiplayer is characterised as when describing this mode, it lets the players know they will bump into other players online to enjoy multiplayer together.
Single Player
Online Co-Op
It doesn't say MMO, Multiplayer or cross-platform multiplayer, because you won't be seeing other people online, only the people you invite from your friends list to your Co-Op group, it will be you and a hand full of people exploring a planet with nobody else around, which is why I described it as an empty planet earlier as there is no multiplayer mode.
Maybe they'll add a hub area later where people can meet up and then they'll add the tag multiplayer, but right now its only saying the game will be Single player and online co-op.
That's because they haven't decided how many players will be able to play in the same vicinity, so hence not an MMO but is a multiplayer game.
And? what does that have to do with Light no fire having no multiplayer? and no option to turn it off because the mode doesn't exist. Clearly it says NMS has multiplayer, so you turning it off doesn't change the fact it is a multiplayer game, all you did was disable it.
No Mans Sky:
Single player
Online co-op
Cross platform Multiplayer <---- Online multiplayer, you can turn this mode off if you don't want to bump into other players in the game.
Light No Fire:
Single Player
Online Co-Op
<---- No mention of multiplayer means no option to turn a non existant mode on or off. You wont bump into other players online.
This thread can be closed. Thanks!
You're so confidently wrong.
Cross platform multiplayer just means multiple platforms share the same online servers or more specifically it allows players from other platforms to join each other.
Playstation <-> Xbox <-> PC all playing together is cross platform multiplayer - that's it. Again - it is not defining how multiplayer works. Online co-op is a form of multiplayer.
I'm going to blow your mind right now:
Look at Satisfactory the game on steam:
Single-player
Online Co-op
Cross-Platform Multiplayer
There is no PVP mode. You have to invite people to your world. Steam lists all the different connectivity options. Official support is 4 players max.
Turning off cross platform connectivity means you won't connect with console or other platforms. Rocket League has this too. With it off, you'd only play with PC players. To not play multiplayer at all, you turn Network to off. Network is multiplayer.
I personally don't care about multi player, but just for the sake of avoiding drama I hope they can build a decent network architecture that can support lobbies with 32 players and a match making server.
There will still be wailing and gnashing of teeth from the "open pvp" crowd but that group is small enough they can be ignored or just mocked as needed.
