We should get more information at The Game Awards (June 7th). But based on what we know so far this game will more likely be co-op focused but not a true MMO like World of Warcraft.
Light No Fire will most likely function like No Man's Sky which occupies an odd middle ground between small group co-op and MMO. Everyone is on the same map, and experiences the same thing; but they are divided into instances/lobbies of 32 (maybe 64) players or play online with multi player turned off (solo lobby), or offline.
Like NMS a large part of LNF may be a discovery system where players get credit for the being the first to find something. There may even be community wide map sharing. If that is the case then the map needs to be at least Earth sized to give each players room to discover stuff. Image 10 million Lewis and Clark expeditions all running around and looking for stuff to discover, or 10 million conquistadors running around. Even an Earth sized map could fill out surprising fast.
But more like NMS.
So can play real SP. or MP if you choose.
ALso hoping LNF will have- (even though I love NMS) -way deeper and more logical fun, quests and overall story arc.
man.... that is exactly what I was thinking as well when i first heard of the details of this game. Way back when the "first explorers" (whatver anyone wants to call them) were out sailing etc... sure there were likely alot of people all over the planet exploring. Obviously on release day, and release month... every gamer with any salt for exploring and "Being first" is going to be setting sail and exploring like crazy. Although I love the idea of a massive planet that many players can explore and settle, Im just having a super hard time trying to figure out how its going to be done, and done well without lag. Very much looking forward to the game, and I feel like itll be a work in progress for many years. Its something that hasnt really been done before, which makes it that much more awesome. I feel like the devs will deliver, just gonna be alotta hiccups along the way as players find exploits and loopholes as per the usual. Going to be a metric fk ton of griefers finding ways to stop others from expanding their builds, resource hoarding and blocking. going to be an interesting release thats for sure.
