and then i imagine there'll be places to show off your catch or hunt.
the possibilities are really exciting.
I knew I wanted fishing, but now I know I want this kind of fishing!
I know its a big stretch, big idea and will more than likely never be done, but a gamer can dream, right?
i dont agree, I enjoy being excited for games, if they dont pan out in the end, so be it, no skin off my back.
I've got decades of anticipating games that i think i will be interested in, another disappointment is no great calamity to me.
however gaming is an important hobby to me, and part of the enjoyment is looking to the future at what is coming, and sharing that excitement with like minded people.
its not like being cynical and and not speculating will somehow help the game be better, nor will it improve my enjoyment of it somehow.
I'm not blind and simply buying whatever looks good, in fact these days i don't buy many games at all, I'm a lot more picky and jaded, and so all the more reason that when i find something to be excited for, I like to enjoy that without constantly being cynical about it.
and that all said, speculating that there may be fishing is hardly head in the clouds dreaming.
in fact the trailer shows lots of small rafts and viking style long ships that look to be engaged in fishing, and also shows schools of fish, so it is probably more likely than not to be some form of fishing.
and unlike the lead up to NMS, LNF is built on the tech that they have been developing for over a decade now, and has been tested and proven by millions of players.
as ambitious as it is, it is based on proven, tested game tech, there is nothing in the trailer that looks dubious as to the possibility of it being possible with their current game engine.
Not so sure about romancing though. That's prrrrrrobably a long shot. :D
Speculate about fishing sure, but speculating about infinite varieties of fish, being able to mount and display them as trophies, fishing for prizes, having contests, being able to put the fish in tanks, etc, etc, is unrealistic expectations.
first off i disagree, I'll either enjoy a game or not, whether i hyped up over it or not will not change how much i enjoy the game. and again, if im disappointed, so be it, move on to the next game.
I would rather be excited , and then disappointed now and then, rather than never be excited for any games.
i would say be more careful in the games you choose to be excited for, rather than dont get excited for games.
there have been tons of games i was highly excited for that lived up to the hype for me.
NMS being one of them by the way, i bought the collectors edition too.
based on what is already available in NMS none of that is crazy speculation.
NMS already has endless procedural creatures, so it is not crazy to think something similar will apply to creatures, and fish in LNF.
you can already adopt companions, share species discoveries. and there are community goals and such with rewards in NMS, there are even aquariums and terrariums, even though they are static. so again, there is likely to be similar systems in LNF, if anything LNF seems to be even more community focused than NMS.
What is worse is when people do this, and then attribute their delusions to the developer as if they were some "promise" that was made... and then decry the developer for "lying" when their delusion isn't in the game. (p.s. not directing this notion at Chaunsey btw).
You just have to look at the nutjobs that sent Sean et al death threats because butterflies weren't in No Man's Sky.
I do think it is perfectly fine to be excited for a game and "hype" for its possibilities. As long as you keep those expectations in check and tempered with reality.
Depends, man. Words can insinuate things without the speaker necessarily meaning to. However, whatever is in the advertising, especially any kind of trailer or gameplay video is expected to be in the final game, no exceptions.
