How's the online co-op?
This info is strangely hard to find. Can anyone provide specifics on how the online co-op works, please? Can you play all modes and stages with friends? Do both players make progress or does only the host gain anything?

Be a pal and help out me and the next guy who trawls the internet for this info!

It looks like you can play all stages/modes in coop or through local split-screen.
I haven't been able to matchmake with anyone however.

You can even upload custom art for the character creator mode, these are all things I would have expected them to leave out.. so it's nice to see them go out of their way.

Chronicle mode has co-op as well as story and free mode, and story progression is given to the guest as well as the host

Did they remove network mode off of Chronicles mode for DX? I saw a video of the original having a network mode option.

Nevermind Chronicles Mode does have Network Play. After you do two missions you can quick join rooms and host public/private rooms. The "Network" button will appear once the tutorial talks about picking goals/armor shops

Yep!

How does the progression work? I want to pick this up for my friend so we can play together but unsure of that single aspect. Like for Story Mode does the host have to beat the level first, or can both players tackle the new level together... Is progress shared between both players or just the host? It's weirdly hard to find definitive evidence on this part of the game weirdly.

Excellent! A big thank you to everyone except Chere!

Yeah, me and my friend just did most of the Nobunaga campaign and neither of us even touched single player aside from a little of chronicle mode, for whatever reason the session ends after each level which is weird.

Did both you get progression towards the campaign? And how fast is it to set up a private room for each level?

Yeah we both got progression in single player from it, it was pretty quick setting up a game just after every level we'd have select a new level, invite each other and then it would start. Connection was fairly stable but the lack of any lobby or party system is just strange. Perhaps Chronicle mode is different but idk

Much appreciated, Rooster! It's always nice when a weird question with no internet presence is answered, and I'm sure people googling this info in 2026 or whatever will appreciate it too.

It's terrible, you can't play all the missions in story modes because certain ones are bugged, just like they are in other versions, when certain dialog/scenes come up the 2nd player will crash. It depends on the campaign you are playing, you'll run into it eventually.

Crashed in the first 5 minutes I played it, the person connected to me locked up as soon as the first scene happens in battle.

This happened in another samurai warriors, the issue will never be fixed, refunded!

EDIT: The people giving advice are basing it off the Oda campaign, that one does not crash. Try the one that's already unlocked when you first play that has 2 female characters and 2 male characters, sometimes it'll lock up in the first battle in the first 5 minutes.

Chronicles mode is single player only.

Press Y on your controller while you're in the Chronicles world map (or whatever the m&kb equivalent to that button is). You'll be greeted with the online co-op mode.

also in Chronicles if you or your friend get the "you don't meet the requirements" error, I believe it's just because they started in a different region. When my friend picked my starting area after we did the 2 tutorial missions and used the Y on a mission they were able to connect :happiestmask:

I asked in a separate post but never got answer: Do you share the same enemies online (is it synced between players), or does it each player get their own enemies? In other Koei Tecmo titles, the online amounts to each player effectively fighting their own units while just sharing the player characters (so it would look like one player is attacking nothing on your own screen). Can you attack the same enemies in this one, or is it still like previous titles?
