How does the hook work does any one know?

It's a rope from whatever point it attaches to to your characters hand. It (as far as I know) does not change in length, thought it may appear to get shorter at times. The rope cannot go through solid objects like terrain or some foliage, and bends around it. The player can add movement force into the rope by using the WASD in whatever direction they want to go in, relative to the camera, so that if one is stuck under an island they can still get momentum to swing up.

It's much like a rope one would find in their actual, real-life house, but it appears to shorten instead of folding in on itself if it isn't stretched fully.

you can now reel the line in and out

Left shift = reel in
Left Ctrl = release line

In order to real in and out do you need to do anything else? Cant seem to reel up a surface like this

nope, just hold shift or Left Ctrl.
