unfortunately prices have to increase ... but even $200 for this amazing software is super cheap! i need had my credit card paid off too lol ... looks like the suites going on it :D
So, no discount for people with prior version is what you are saying.
For those who are 2023 owners and wanting a discount, I'd wait until the winter sale (21st December). If it doesnt go on sale then, I'd wait up until 31st December. After that, who knows, what with the price increase of 2024 and all.
why cant you just be happy for 150-200 you get a year maintenance + any possible upgrades or new features ... what did you all expect that the 150 you initially paid would span the whole companies lifetime ...
look at it this way ... its been this way since 2020 .. were not entering the 4th year like this ... no amount of complaining is going to shift the company away from their decision ...
so if you want 2024 with the years maintenance and features then go for it , if not go use mari at £2000 or toolbags primitive features at £500 a year ...
when you put it in perspective its an amazing offer
Mari doesn´t have a perpetual licence for new customers anymore, it now costs 629€+Tax per year.
Mari maintenance (for perpetual licence holders) this year was 456.25€ (tax included.)
3DCoat has a perpetual maintenance licence (one year of updates and every version within the maintenance stays perpetual), it did cost me 47,60€ (tax included)
Purchasing a new perpetual licence of Toolbag4 (319$ +Tax) might feel steep at first but if you bought it in 2020 and look back, it would be a good deal by now.
The upgrade from Toobag 3 to 4 back in 2020 did cost 155,43€. (Tax included)
All 4.x releases are included and it is a perpetual licence.
Please do not drag me into fruitless perpetual vs subscription discussions.
Life is short and i want to make art.
For those with variable income, perpetual licences and maintenance are a must.
Edit: clarified the 3Dcoat maintenance licence.
clarified the Mari pricepoint for new individual customers.
Looking at the $149.99, my first reaction was, "Wait. They didn't give anybody any notice. How did I miss the early adoption window? Damn!" It didn't stop me from upgrading, but it WAS frustrating. ... ... ... And then I saw this thread. This IS the early adoption price. Now I'm just a little more frustrated.
I've been using the Substance products since v1.0 on each of them. Prices go up and that's understandable. I get it. It's not that they've gone up one year after another. I get that too. Inflation and blah blah blah. What gets me is how, this year, they've gone up disproportionately. That's what's annoying.
Just looking back at upgrade prices for the past 5 years inclusive:
v2020 = 50.99
v2021 = 70.49
v2022 = 74.99
v2023 = 98.99
v2024 = 149.99
It didn't go up by 5% or even 15%, but a near full 50%. Given how the app still has lingering issues/complaints and major updates seem less... major ... I wonder how they justify it. THAT is the point that I feel that many users here are driving at.
This $149.99 "discount" price is full price for the v2023 version. If they jack up the full price for v2024 to $200 then that means that it's only a 25% discount compared to the 34% off offered last year. It's also 34% increase on the full undiscounted price.
And comparing the upgrade price for v2020 and v2024... Nearly a 3x multiplier.
Other than "prices go up", I don't see much justification yet. If they're going to increase it disproportionately, I'd expect that we'd get more value from our purchase. Under Adobe's leadership? Let's wait & see.
The irony of this is that we Substance Modeler v2023 users got upgraded to v2024 for free. HA! Guess we know how they've subsidized that magic trick. (Seemed like a good will gesture at first, offering the free year given that v2023 felt half-baked, still born and needed more time in active development.)
Anyway.... I use a lot of apps. 3DCoat. Toolbag. ZBrush. Maya. ETC and so on for 30+ years. The paying part is not the issue here. Not to me, at least. I'm just scratching my head at the 5 year trend and wondering if the larger jump in price will be more than that, a price jump only and big features get sidelined. (I say that because, having used Photoshop since 1992, I've seen this same trend - more or less.)
We'll see. We'll see. Only time will tell.
Guys just for your information, I have Mari 7, non commercial and in the words of Harry Enfield.
'Its free and it costs me no money' .:D
FREE.
Then to top it off they increase the price, while having constantly reduced the upgrade discount over the past number of years. With the latest discount being nothing it seems.
As for the update situation... Presumably, that's the case. I can't imagine Adobe giving any more updates to v2023 unless there's some app breaking bug that they introduced in v.9.1.1. Otherwise, it's a legacy app now.
Regarding the pricing & discount issue, that's my exact point.
Would you enlighten me as to why you use so many different software, is it based on freelancing or having to know each software depending on where you work? genuinely curious.
