Dungeon Lords Steam Edition

Dungeon Lords Steam Edition does not work at all!
I had bought and downloaded this great old game that I had played for years on the Collectors Edition. But I had a problem with installing it on Win 10 on my 8 core AMD system. When it did install I could not change the resolution at all (but it would still work and you could still play it.) So, I figure that the Steam version would fix this problem and more. Well, Steam DID fix the problem ... the problem that it worked. Now, DL SE won't work ... period. I get the splash screens and the intro video, but when it comes to the menu, the cursor won't move, you can't use a mouse or the keyboard or even the game controler to make the cursor move. It just stays there. If you left-click on the mouse the cursor would sparkle, and that's it. And after a while, the credits will start up, but that's about it. And the only way to get out of the game is by the Task Manager and stop the process of the game. Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Any one ever have this problem? :steamfacepalm:

Hey,

I saw this by complete accident while SHIFT+TABing in the game, but have you seen this link? It's a "guide" if you're playing on 4k resolutions and have no mouse cursor. It might have what you need, though I'm only guessing at this point.

Actually, I found a different solution and I never thought of it till I was messing with the Windows Icon Properties. First I tried to right click the icon on the Windows start up bar, but it didn't have anything that I could do to reduce the game in windows mode (some games you have to do that for the mouse cursor to work such as Titan Quest due to differences in how Windows works with the Mouse Device Context now.) But, I went directly to the Dungeon Lords folder, right-clicked on the DLSteamEdition application exe file and went to the Properties>Windows Compatablility and checked Run in Compatable with Win XP Service Pack 3 and with Disable Display Scaling on High DPI Settings and Run as Administration checked. That fixed the problem with the mouse cursor not functioning. Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it! :steamhappy:

That's pretty much what the guide tells you to do too. :P

I'm glad you got it working though - despite a lot of the hate, the game is pretty fun. I might be biased though because I did play it back in 2005, haha.

My only gripe now is trying to figure out how to make a decent melee character... I have a character with 60 strength, which does seem to help a little with his melee damage output, but I have no idea how the calculations work. Using a 2-handed sword (from the Arms of Argus), my damage is around 9-14 per hit, so I'm guessing 60 strength is a ~60% damage increase, i.e. 1% damage per point? I've no idea, haha.

Anyways, ranting. Have fun!

I have to admit that I had been kind of set back by this revised edition by Steam. For one, there use to be a boulder near the west edge of the temple ruins in the beginning of the game, after getting the letter from the messenger. I would use that to stand on and, with a bow, shoot at the enemies and rack up a lot of skills, experience and bonus points as well as idems. On the Steam version, that boulder is gone. Also, in the old Collectors Edition, on your Character creation you can choose what skills to start off with. But, in the Steam Edition, you can't choose your skills, just your class. Despite how nice and well done the UI is and the upgrade of the graphics and resolution, I really wish they would have left some stuff in the game that helped you to build your character up. Also, it seems like the distance to castle gate is shorter than the Collector's Edition. Right now, those are the only things that I am kind of put out about. All in all, the game is almost like the original.
