Dungeon Lords Steam Edition

Has this game been improved?
I played this game nearly a decade ago and was very frustrated with the poor quality. It had mechanics that I sincerly wanted to enjoy, but the game was broken by bugs and missing content. Has it been improved? I want to try this again, but I'm weary after my first impressions. I see the changelog, but I'd like to hear from people who have tried it.

The ones who released this on Steam have a big challenge of overcoming the poor reputation of the original release.

tl;dr
no. they made the multiplayer work, but didnt actually fix any of the game breaking bugs, complete lack of direction, functionless skill levels, terrible AI, or broken quests. this is the last version, mmxxii or whatever the hell it was, with a functional multiplayer lobby. its just someone tryin to milk this piece of crap for more than its worth for like the 6th time.

it WAS on sale on GoG as mmxii, but i guess when they added muliplayer they decided to up the price by 10$ and remove mmxii.

This version > MMXII version
This version <=> Collector's Edition version

Magic/Leveling/Class system were changed for the worse, graphics are now improved (still suck, c'mon it's 10 years old...), comfort functions were added (better Interface, hotkeys and such stuff), randomized loot is quite interesting, stuttering during mob spawn was reduced...

If there was a bug in the old version... it's probably still there, they mostly fixed the crap they added/changed in MMXII. However it's playable (runs quite smoothly for me) and way better than the last MMXII version, but to be honest I'd wait some weeks until grabing it and see if the developers now actually care for their game and fix stuff or if they abandon it once more...
Leveling is bad. I entered to first sewers on 3d level - tons of XP awarded for the enemies. But elite difficult is really hard and provide nice battles. MMXII level system (stats, skill it is worse than GOLD edition). Spell book - it's casual for me.All SPELLS already in book.

And bugs, Bugs, BUGS. ohh :)

wow, i played the original version patched to i don't remember but it was a LOT of fun & i was using some cheat device but eventually my entire saves were hosed.I wonder if the guy that made that cheat will redo a new 1 for this edition & compatible with win 7-10.
I have to say i been meaning to replay this for ages, the CE had some nice stuff but i remember ppl complaining how stuff didn't work.
over all, if this is as fun as the original with fixes that work i would recommend it with a 50%+ sale..............it may not have been perfect back then but it was really fun to explore.I think dream catcher was the original dev/pub for this,oh well.....i think under 10$ it's still worth it.
I will most likely get it when it's like 5$, thats my cap for older titles that i liked.

this version has at least one bug that was ONLY present in the very first itteration of the game. this is NOT a modification of mmxxi. it is the very first version of the game with a graphical uppdate. and anyone who says they enjoyed this game is an outright liar.

False. My brothers and I have thoroughly enjoyed every iteration of this game and are ecstatic that its release on Steam is bringing further improvements.

It is kinda lame how many times I've had to buy roughly the same game, but this version is easily the best once the multiplayer crashes get ironed out and I in no way regret the purchase.

Totally wrong, combats are quite good even if not great, there are good puzzling, tricks and ambushes. The class system was interesting and rather original. It's not hand guided. There's many good dungeons. The lockpick system was ok for once. An average story as most CRPG. Definitely some unfinished features like few skils and special abilities with no effect but just a few. Also some almost empty town and houses ok not cool but not major. The simplified inventory management was a bit bizarre but again nothing major the only real consequence was probably lost some gold to get from next merchant but nothing important.

I enjoyed a lot my play and even replayed it once. The real problem of the game was to be released with some unfinished elements, most bugs was fixed with patch but not the missing elements. But the gameplay has many good points.

The answer is no, because you cant improve upon the perfection this game was built upon.
combat consists of mash the attack button or mash the spell you spam button. dont pretend theres some kind of strategy to this games combat. its less in depth than diablo 1.

correct. you also have to circle strafe the enemy if you can manage to get ina fight with only 1 thing, or move left and rightconstantly like an idiot. this is not strategy. these are not positive features of combat.
{KINGS} the king, you DO realize there are more of us agreeing this game was fun.

This game is fun, don't listen to the haters. I've played every version and this game is not broken in any way. There are some stuttering bugs(the game will freeze for a second every once in awhile) that I notice that also happened with the very first version but that's about it. As to gameplay, they have changed it around quite a bit since the version but many people are confusing the changes for bad gameplay. Take the game for what it is and you'll be happy with it.

shawn, how did you deal with the decay of armor and weapons? Frequent visits to town perhaps?
