Can't run this game. (Windows 7)
Each time i try to run this game i get an "Application running" error, after i tried to put it on a "Run as admin" mode and Compatibility on Windows XP, before that i got another error, Runtime Error 217 at 001b2e14, help anyone? I also tried to limit the Maximum Memory to 2 GB, i get the Application running error still.

EDIT 28/06/13: My god, it's working. I set it to Vista SP1 compatibility mode, BUT i UNchecked the "Run as administrator" thing. I get an error but i press Accept and it runs! Cutscenes and Gameplay!

@dan360a47: it's an address violation message in French. Do you get this message when starting AoW, or when you use the Map Editor of AoW

The message pops up when I try to launch the game. The game does launch once I press red x. Doesn't happen with High Treason.

If you have Windows 7 ultimate you can setup a virtual XP PC for free and control the amount of ram to run the game. go.pcworld.com/virtualpc

Hello
I´ve got the same problems, but I´m using WIN8.
I had the old on disk version, wich never used to work on WIN 7, so I was looking very forward when I found this game on steam, because it shoul be naturally that games you pay for work, or at least there shoul be a warning...
The patch wich is recommend to install, tells me the the atari folder is not the right one, so it is useless for me too :(

Is there any one who can help me getting this game running?

Thans a lot!

I just found this on another site and after doing so the AOW games work for me now

Open msconfig, Start > Run > msconfig <press enter>
Got to the Boot tab, then to Advanced options
Limit the number of Processors to 1 and limit Max Memory to 2048, click OK, then Apply and OK.
Reboot, and now the Act of War games should be working (note: if your running a 64bit OS like i am your get an when loading about running a 16bit application, just click through it and the game will still load.)

Of course you'll want to remove these settings when your not playing AOW in order to gain back your PC's full performance.

@-kamikaze- : did you try my suggestion?
Your suggestion is totally unacceptable, I don't want to reboot my computer every time I want to play a game.

EDIT: it works for me on Windows 7/64 bit (24GB RAM), by right clicking on the ACTOFWAR.EXE file, selecting the Compatiblity tab and then run in "Windows XP SP3" mode and Run as Administrator. It starts up in window mode.

The compatiblity thing and Run as Admin worked for me. :)

@Morton87: that should work in most cases. You can also achieve that by installing a boot manager application. Then you can select in which environment you want to work, at boot.

One: Yes, the game wasn't developed when Windows 7 was even a pipe dream. Two: Steam doesn't have any legal obligation to refund the purchase, and you shouldn't expect them to. We -should- be hammering the developer to make a patch for this.

Really, don't get why people hammer Steam because developers screw up. The game -should- work, but the developers never bothered to fix the fact the game can't run on systems that exceed their perceived possible system requirements.

Saw a 64-bit version of the game in ModDB. Also in some mod forums there is some fixes that works for some players.

I changed the boot memory to 2048 and the CPU to 1, set it to run as administrator and in XP service pack 3 compatability mode, i clicked through the 16-bit application message. After all that it says 'Unlock Act of War: Direct Action" Any help?
I`ve used many hours to run this. Better give up, it´s wasted time... :(
