I´ve got the same problems, but I´m using WIN8.
I had the old on disk version, wich never used to work on WIN 7, so I was looking very forward when I found this game on steam, because it shoul be naturally that games you pay for work, or at least there shoul be a warning...
The patch wich is recommend to install, tells me the the atari folder is not the right one, so it is useless for me too :(
Is there any one who can help me getting this game running?
Thans a lot!
Open msconfig, Start > Run > msconfig <press enter>
Got to the Boot tab, then to Advanced options
Limit the number of Processors to 1 and limit Max Memory to 2048, click OK, then Apply and OK.
Reboot, and now the Act of War games should be working (note: if your running a 64bit OS like i am your get an when loading about running a 16bit application, just click through it and the game will still load.)
Of course you'll want to remove these settings when your not playing AOW in order to gain back your PC's full performance.
The compatiblity thing and Run as Admin worked for me. :)
Really, don't get why people hammer Steam because developers screw up. The game -should- work, but the developers never bothered to fix the fact the game can't run on systems that exceed their perceived possible system requirements.
