Windows 10 fix
With the following settings I am able to play the game on Windows 10, I thought I'd post my fix in case others are having the same issues as I was with the game freezing on launch with a black screen -

Go to the installation folder & find 'ActOfWar.exe' right click & select properties then select compatibility. Select the following settings -

(1) Windows 7
(2) Overide high DPI scaling behaviour scaling performed by - Application
(3) Disable Full Screen optimisations
(4) Run as Administrator

Click Apply then Ok,

Play the game by double clicking the above exe from within the folder instead of through steam

You may get an error message about not finding a user file just ignore it by clicking ok then the game will start up. It now runs fine for me.

Please post in this thread if this fix has worked for you?

Yeah, it runs fine while clicking from the folder but that is not a good option because no steam overlay, could've bought a gog instead. And steam everytime keeps resetting compatibility settings to the ones that are not working.

You can delete compability settings part from installscript.vdf, but if you have already played game then installscript.vdf will reset itself. I think you need to delete appmanifest of game, verify you game, then delete parts from installscript.vdf so it runs first time setup without compability parts.

If you and Tuga can say something about just what happens ("failure mode") that might help someone come up with a suggestion.

i just said before it was a memory adress error message... really have to install game again to write all the error code? :/
and no its not memory short, i have 16gb ram ddr3 in my pc.

Sorry Tuga I totally blew past that. (Actually I replied to spectral and then tacked your callsign on.)
I have vague memory of some pretty gnarly technical suggestions. Did you google?

I did and try some "solutions", but never managed to get the game going. Too late now, got it refunded lol.

Tried it and I got nothing either. Now it tells me I have an invalid CD key. If I launch from steam I get a "your pc has ran into a problem and needs to restart" but that screen hangs and I manually have to reboot. Crashes everytime I try to launch the game.

What's funny is that I have the steam version of High Treason and that works fine without any problems. HT installed fine but not this. Is there a specific reason that Direct Action has issues and High Treason does not?

I do not have a laptop so I cannot just set it to integrated graphics setting.

Not exactly genius advice, but: be sure to Validate your Local Files.
Even a little glitch can cause insanity. And you seem to have a roaring case of that!
good luck
