What earns you Franchise Points?

I know the purple border around the Time/Day is your progress towards the next Point but what increases this?

Money earned, customers served, items sold, or does it just naturally progress with time?

I think it's the amount of product you sell every day. I haven't (and don't wanna) try to lower the price to the lowest and see if the point is based on the price or not though.
