I actually do have experience with managing Discord servers. I made 4, one is mainly just for my friends and a guild community I'm a master of, one for a mod I put together for a game, etc... The main thing I've done was a massive reorganization for one particular server for someone who does YouTube videos and occasional streaming for mainly SCS Software games, but more goes on there too.

Though when it comes to using Discord bots, I don't personally use any public bot, like at all. I prefer to host my own so that I have full control over it and have features that I need to help managing a bit easier, or to provide some other minor features I could use. Otherwise, I'll just use a bit of AutoMod to take care of scams that I've been seeing lately.

Anyway, I normally don't really join Discord servers for games, partly because I like to keep my server count low. (Discord runs on Electron, which uses Chromium as its base, and performance starts to degrade the more servers you're in, which gets a bit worse if you have Nitro to be in up to 200 servers.) So, I'd rather wait for official word from the developer team on what they plan on doing.

For being a free game, I see some merits from this and I'd probably be willing to drop a few bucks for some cosmetic DLC just to throw some money their way.

Our server is growing and looking more official, can definitely meet the needs of the community until the devs create their own official one.

Discord would be really cool. It would be clearer and easier to write what you want and what is currently being worked on, etc.

Fully agree here, we have a channel that is an announcement channel that can push what the devs post as patch notes etc, out to those discords that have it being sent to their own discords but it relies on one of us to grab it as soon as it's posted and post it into the discord
