Juice I don't see in fridges, just on the shelf. Milk on the other hand, everywhere I go, they are always in the fridge. Never on the shelf itself. The only milk products I see on the shelf are condensed or powdered milk.
Butter too, unless you're using it for baking or such, you take it out to room temp a few hours prior so it's soft once you need it. Mozzarella is also stored in the fridge, as it spoils easy. Parmigiano is debatable - I guess you can store it at room temp unopened, as it's usually packed up tightly, but our stores keep it in the cold as well, but I'm not too sure about that?
I'd have to look at the bottle in the fridge, but I'm pretty sure it says to refrigerate when opened. Otherwise, if it's still sealed, being at room temp probably won't harm it.
Cheeses are a bit different, though. Hard Cheeses, such as Gouda and Cheddar, are able to be stored unopened at room temperature for several months. Soft cheeses, like Cream Cheese or Cottage Cheese, should be thrown out after 2 hours unrefrigerated. Aged cheese is typically fine to store at room temperature. And of course, processing the cheese by slicing or grating will increase the risk of foodborne illnesses.
Standard juice, unopened, Can be stored at room temp easily.
Butter is..... weird. Due to different practices around the word and different brand's standards, butter can last anywhere between 2 days and a month unrefrigerated. But, only if it's in an airtight container without moisture. So, best Refrigerate that butter.
fun fact: Steam apparently does not register "Foodborne" and "Unrefrigerated" as words.
Wait till you see eggs sold at room temperature.
Unsure what you mean by that. I live in Europe and certainly where I live, we keep milk, cheeses etc in the cold. Eggs are sold at room temp, yes, some still keep them in the cold at home, probably to reduce any risk of premature spoiling / for the eggs to last longer.
These things are highly dependent where you're from, and same rules don't even apply within the same continent.
That's actually interesting. The juices I drink have to be kept in the fridge or they will spoil - within a day or two or three, unsure, it's been a while since I accidentally forgot an unopened juice carton on the tabletop. But it definitely turns nasty quite easy.
It's interesting though, I had not thought that there'd be this many differing thoughts and experiences regarding preservation of simple foods like.. milk. Or cheese. Or even butter. That's kinda wild to me haha.
