It's better in general, but sometimes can actually be worse. Other than my first shop lifter where I didn't know what to look for, I've caught 100 percent of the others. Until today. I put an alarm at each entrance and stood in the back of the store (I usually stand in the street), to see if I could get to the thief in time once the alarm sounded. Today one of the thieves was nowhere to be found as I ran to the front of the store, the recap screen showed only a loss of 4.40.......but it's still my first failed attempt to stop a shop lifter.

The alarm is supposed to be a benefit, but I'm not convinced it's going to be in the long run. I've expanded each row three times. I have seven expansions remaining for each row. If the thief is getting away now, they'll definitely get away if I'm in the back of the store that's fully expanded....especially if I'm trying to stock a shelf and have to drop the box, quickly grab a broom, and run outside. I lost the thief today while standing in the back of the store with broom in hand ready to run the instant the alarm sounded. In other words, I was prepared and waiting and still couldn't get there fast enough.

I was hoping the alarm would startle the thieves and they'd panic and drop the stolen items at the door, removing the need for us to chase them with a broom. As is I think it gives a false sense of security, but in reality (if you're playing solo at least), you still have no choice but to stand at the front of the store waiting....rendering the alarm somewhat meaningless. Or just not care if things get stolen, that's an option as well.

If you're near the front of the store the alarm can be helpful, but if you're not (and once your store is fully expanded you mostly won't be, it's not really something that can be relied upon.

It goes well with a security guard, player or NPC.

Just like real life. No security guard in real life is going to be stood at the back of the store and then complain the thief got away lol.

But some people play this game solo and can't just stand around in the front waiting for thieves. It's a grocery store simulator, not a police officer simulator....they need to remember that. This is supposed to be a very minor part of the game and with the latest update it has become a big part of it.
