community is pretty much dead but can't say that WA looks any different either. some people maybe say that wa is still very much alive...i don't think so. i don't count 15 idle snooper users on the wn1 as "being active" whenever i check the wn1 it maybe has 3 hosts of normal games and 2 actual client users on anything goes, that's it. far from being active, i'm sorry to say.
on the subject of options that wwp offers. wa has wormkit and the plugin rubberworm which offers many but not all of the host lobby wormpod options. yes, wa doesn't have the mission editor. was fun back then to create missions and play them with friends. but wormkit also has another plugin called projectX which allows you to create your own weapons and use them on customized new scheme files.
I also love those features like wind affecting more weapons, spending points for weapons and many others, but I could play Worms without these just as well... I'm interested in the first ones.
I wonder if Deadcode is still working on WA and if he'll ever bring those WWP features into it.
