ETS2 ATS SCS
...Hello, actually I'm really fed up with SCS,
ETS2 and ATS!!!! Your games don't work for me and you can't even find solutions?!... I have spent, since 2015, hundreds and hundreds of euros on Steam, and now it's been practically a year that it no longer works normally, WHY??? I don't have a shadow of a solution!!!
Now, I configure at least a few keys to make the game work, and as soon as I go into the game, nothing works....
I go back to the options and the startup, gearbox, etc. parameters disappear?!?!......I start again, and the same thing!
Steam sells, that's all, when it no longer works, see SCS....
and SCS doesn't care at all, no serious help!!! FED UP !!!

Both games work without issues. Problem is fully on your end.
Underscore_101_3 Feb 18, 2024 @ 4:37am
If you're using the Steam controller thingy, stop doing that, set buttons up, etc,. with the in game settings.
Make sure the file isn't write protected: C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\Documents\American Truck Simulator\profiles\bunchofnumbershere\controls.sii
If you're using something like Onedrive, stop doing that as well.

edit: Also next time before you rant, do a search on the forum to find useful info.

All those problems seem to be only on your system, and if you have been experiencing them for a year, why have you not posted here before now, asking for help?

You need to sort your PC and game installation out, so here's what you need to do to start:

Verify your game files. You can do this by doing a right-click on the game in your Steam Library and going to "Properties". There you go to "Local files" and there should be the option to verify your files. This will fix any missing or corrupt game files.
Link: https://help.steampowered.com/faqs/view/0C48-FCBD-DA71-93EB

Go to the top of Steam library page for the game and click "help" at the very top right-hand side.
Click "system information".
Wait for the pop-out window to open and display the information, then right click and select the "copy all text to clipboard" option, and then paste it here.

Go to "C:\Users\*your username*\Documents\American Truck Simulator".
Open "game.log.txt"
(NOT game.crash.txt),
in Notepad or other text editor.
Copy it all, then post it to pastebin.com (split if too big) as a guest.
Post the link to that page here.
If pastebin is not available in your country you can use rentry.co and post that page link here.
On a Mac the ETS2 folder is in your Library and there in the Application Support. On Linux the ETS2 folder is in the .local and there in the share.

Change this line in the config (or config.cfg) file:
00:00:00.xxx : uset cf_asus_aura "1"
00:00:00.xxx : uset cf_razer_chroma "1"
Change the "1" to "0" (zero) in both lines and save it.
You can find the file in your documents in the ATS folder.

ARE YOU USING MODS?
Mods = potential problems
Lots of mods = LOTS of potential problems
It is right on the launch screen every time you start the game, when you run mods.
"THIS GAME CONTAINS UNAUTHORISED MODIFICATIONS. IF YOU EXPERIENCE CRASHING TRY REMOVING YOUR MODS PACKS."
Mods are unsupported by SCS, they are entirely your responsibility.
Mod authors do not always maintain mods and keep them up to date, any new game update has the potential to break every mod. Workshop mods and third-party mods have NO guarantee of working, either on their own or with other mods.
Mods can affect the game in unintended ways causing problems not related to the mod itself.

Start a new, unmodded, vanilla profile (you can have as many as you want without affecting your normal profile) and test the game

Is your computer using OneDrive for the default Windows "documents" folder, even if you did not ask it to?
Windows will try to use OneDrive as the default documents location and ATS/ETS2 will not run correctly if it does so.
Never allow Windows to use OneDrive for the default documents folder location.
Stop using OneDrive:
Microsoft official instructions to remove OneDrive:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0
The "home" directory for the game should be the documents folder on your C: drive.

Make sure that all your drivers for audio and video are fully up to date, as well as your Windows system files. Only download video drivers from the manufacturer's official web site, never a third-party site. If possible, do a clean install of the driver, use DDU (Google it for the download, and look on Y/T for help) to remove out dated drivers.
If you have an Nvidia GFX card, install GeForce Experience and set it to alert you when a new driver is available, but you choose when to install it.

PC's are NOT consoles, you don't just turn them on and play, you have to know how to maintain and update your system and keep it running properly. Gaming on a PC is the most stress you can put on a system, old PC's cannot play games properly if they use old outdated components. It is entirely up to you to keep your PC fit to run games, and games only ever get more demanding on hardware, not less. Expecting a 10-year old potato PC to run @ 1080p @ 60fps is wildly unrealistic.

If you really want to play ATS as it was designed to be played, you'll need to respond to the help and advice you get here, and remember, we can;t see your PC screen, or read your mind. We can only see the information you post on here, the more details and honesty, the better the outcome.

Clearly the games mentioned work fine for tens of thousands of people, so the most likely scenario is that there is something not configured properly on your computer. Just because something isn't working for you, does not make it SCS or anyone's fault.

So rather than just throwing a rage tantrum, perhaps it would be a good start by listing what games don't work for you, your way about starting and/or the games, maybe throw in a few hardware specs (processor, gpu, ram, controllers, yadayada) for good measure, and maybe then people might be more informed about what the issue could be. Also a list of mods (if you use any) would be helpful.

Instead of coming on here and raising hell about your game. You could post your game log and see if it is fixable. You could have came on here and ask for help. But with an attitude like yours I will not even venture in trying to help you...

...to those who criticize me without knowing, without providing answers, too bad....I pity them!
To those who gave me intelligent and constructive responses, a
thank you very much and I will try to answer in turn...
First of all, I must say that I have posted on these forums several times
but without much result... I was made to upgrade my PC, I was advised to change the steering wheel, that didn't change anything... I suspect that there is something wrong not on my side, but what's annoying is that SCS doesn't even respond, doesn't give me any leads, or basic things that I've done for a long time!!! Or
well still I am asked for documents that I do not understand,
I'm not a computer scientist!... I'm just a gamer who liked
drive trucks!
My PC: INtel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz
RAM 32 GB
ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER Motherboard
Nvidia GTX 1660 Super Graphics Card
LDLC ATX 550W power supply
System installed on CRUCIAL 500 GB SSD
Games installed on CRUCIAL 1 TB SSD
Windows 10 22H2
Everything is updated regularly!!!
There you go, if I can provide you with anything else, it will be with pleasure but please
explain to me simply and exactly how to do it?!
Thank you very much, Jeffy1953

....So I have a THRUSTMASTER T248 steering wheel with TH8S gear lever, all perfectly up to date with driver and firmware!
and I specify that I have NO mod!!!
Wolfpig Feb 18, 2024 @ 9:40am
As already said in here, if your settings (and other stuff) get lost every time you start the game, then most likely your own document folder has not the rights to be written in it (happens if those are tied to another user account....often when you reinstalled windows and had those on another drive)
or
the folder lies on a Cloud drive and gets not updated correctly and therefore the old files get reobtained (which of course do not contain the changes you made)

Please read and respond appropriately to my post up-thread, it is essential if you really want help to sort your game out. It is entirely your system and settings alone and getting defensive and complaining about comments will not gain any sympathy or useful advice.

This is not for my benefit, but for everyone to see and use to make suggestions for fixing the poor performance.

Both ATS and ETS2 are relatively bug-free, compared to many, even AAA, PC games.
They both run on modest PC's at decent frame rates and quality, SCS are mindful that not everyone has a NASA-spec gaming PC, so the hardware requirements are not high at all. Blaming the game for your experience with it is wholly wrong, you have to accept that first, otherwise you are never going to be able to move on and make the changes needed to run it to your satisfaction.

The ball is in your court, it's your decision what to do next, the hardware you detailed is sufficient to run the game @ 40 -60 fps with medium GFX detail @ 1080p, so there is no obvious reason why it won't, other than errors with your settings and install.

Perhaps it would be a good start to list the actual problem(s) then instead of random raging?

Anyways, let's get cracking....

Definitely above requirements, no question/issue there (strictly speaking hardware by itself)

For this situation, I'll just take your word on it that your drivers and whole shabang is up to date as you stated.
This begs the question though, is the stuff also configured properly?

In some cases (albeit few and far between) ATS/ETS2 have a small tendency of resetting game settings/options back to their default values, which might not always be optimal for your hardware. And even in the very rare occasion, the game(s) might switch to the on-board graphics output rather than your dedicated GPU output. So it might be worth verifying this.

Also you may want to double-check your Documents folder in Windows, to see if the windows client/account/username you're using actually has full reading and writing permissions for that folder. If not, this might need fixing from an administator login or by setting your client/login/username in Windows as the default account with full permissions.

A third one that comes to mind is verifying if ATS/ETS2 are using your Documents folder or OneDrive for storing game information. In the case of OneDrive, this is known to cause issues on multiple ends. Probably best to just disable it or log off from OneDrive when you play ATS/ETS2. There are other threads in this forum that go into more detail on how to disable OneDrive and how to make your Documents folder the default information storage.

NOTE: this probably will not fix everything but it would be a good start nonetheless.

Placa Madre MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4
CPU Intel Core i5-13400F
RAM 32GB (Crucial DDR4-3200 4 x 8GB)
GPU Dedicada Asus Dual GEFORCE RTX 3060 12 GB GDDR6
Fuente De Poder Seasonic Focus GM-850w Semi - Modular 80 Plus Gold
Disco SSD CT500P1SSD8 y WDS500G3XOC
Monitor Asus VG279Q3A de 180 HZ
Windows 10 Pro Ver 22H2 (Registrado y actualizado)
Controlador NVIDIA Ver 551.61 (Descarte GeForce Experience, no me sirve)
Volante completo Logitech G29 (Controlador G HUB actualizado)
Solo he pedido ayuda para configurar bien y conseguir mejor funcionamiento.
