There is also the ability to simply change how the profile is saved by changing g_save_format to 2, which will drastically increase load times. You'll be able to find your money balance in the profile data now.
Editing the number in the save file is one way. Cheat Engine is another way (which probably also is editing the number in the same file).
In the workshop there are even "hard economy" mods to decrease the income and/or increase the costs... Makes the gameplay last longer.
A word of caution though: I would stay away from dubious trainers and cheat engines as it can easily lead to a permanent vac ban. Far too many people have experimented around with seemingly 'harmless singleplayer' codes and forget to get rid of them before they went on to play some multiplayer game and got their accounts banned. Valve knows no distinction between malicious cheaters and casuals who just wanted to try out some random cheat tool.
Google for 'TS SE Tool' and you will find what you're after :) Its a savefile editor and will allow you to change all sorts of things from your save, including how much money you have.
