So far I love the new update and all the new graphics settings but I keep losing frames in the interior camera view, especially in cities. I have a 144hz monitor and on 1.49 I could run 144 fps all the time everywhere at max settings. Now I get 130-144 on highway and as low as 70 in cities. That would be fine but its visibly jittery as in vehicles stop for split seconds while I am getting these low framerates. However in every other camera view its a smooth 144 fps.

I have tried:
- changing/lowering graphics settings
- trying different trucks for different interiors
- verifying game files on steam
- updating graphics drivers
- playing on another profile with zero mods

So far nothing has changed and I have seen I am not the only one with this problem. Anybody got any advice?

This is how I have my game set up.

Config.cfg file in Documents/American Truck Simulator folder changes:
uset r_buffer_page_size "30"
uset t_averaging_window_duration "240" <-- set to you monitor default refresh rate
uset t_averaging_window_length "120" <-- set to double the fps that I locked the game to which is 60.

In game graphics settings:
Refresh rate: Default Refresh
V-Sync - Disabled

Scaling: 400% <-- personal preference
AA: TAA
TAA Tuning: Adaptive Clarity
TAA luma sharpening: 1.50
SSAO: Disabled

Individual graphics below this is personal preference along with having SSAO on. I hate the screen door look it shows on trucks like the W900 where you can see the hood so I disable it.

ETA: Remember there is no need to run this game at your monitor max refresh rate. You should go for smooth and steady framerates in my opinion.

What kind of Monitor do you have? Mine is only 60hz and I'm looking to upgrade. Thanks

2560 x 1440. My graphics card is an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 12GB.

I tried out your settings and I still get some frame drops but its not visibly jittering like it was. It really was unplayable in cities before now. I wonder if this could be the new update? I remember when the update that came out with the Oregon DLC was released I had this problem on my old PC. I was running 1080p 60 fps without issue prior then I bought Oregon and got the update. Then every time I went through a city my frames would drop in the low 40s and the jittering was awful. Then the next update came out and everything was fine. Your thoughts?

Are you running mods? Just a curious question.

If the answer to above is yes then have you tried on a brand new profile without mods?

Since I lock my game to 60fps I don't get any jittering, stuttering. Going through California Phase 3 my system stays locked at 60fps. Same as with Nebraska.

Could try some launch options too. Right click ATS in your Library >> Properties.

Copy and paste these into the Launch Options area:
-mm_max_resource_size 80 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 1000

I recently discovered my stuttering was caused by traffic mods, turned them off until they are updated and everything is fine again.

Yep same, i used to run jazzy cat mods along with real truck skins and A.I intensity or what ever it was, now i don`t bother and get a soild 60 fps almost everywhere same for ETS 2.

Same here. I've already answered in this similar thread:

The greatest impact on the performance is the SSAO setting (I am talking here in terms of 100% scalling by default). If you're experience large frame drops even after you disable SSAO , then you need to lower other settings (mirror quality, reflections, secondary lights is what comes to mind first). Like someone mentioned previously scalling is something that you should pay attention to as well, although I don't see any problems unless you go for 300% or 400% which may have a stronger impact on your fps.

I'm wondering if this is a bug/optimization issue, or if it's as Apple calls it: "a new feature".

Anyway, I'm back on 1.49. The graphics appear to be pixel-to-pixel identical to 1.50 on the same settings, and run so much better. I lost Nebraska tho, it was a beautifully made state.

Maybe by looking at all the other threads that have "Pink" in them. There are lots.
Mod issue.

Unfortunately with each new state the framerate gets worse. I accept that as I'm on an old 980ti and will, hopefully upgrade soon, but I do feel SCS could do with a bit of optimisation work. I upgraded everything else recently, so I'm on a 14700k and get fps drops of 10-15fps at junctions, especially with traffic and at night, so it's not a CPU issue.
