Lacking Truck Customization
Compared to other trucks in the base game, it seems like the recent-production-discontinued Kenworth W900 with its accessories pack and newly released Legacy Edition has been receiving special attention from SCS. There are other trucks in the game (Most notably outdated trucks like the Peterbilt 589 that nobody talks about) along with trucks like the Peterbilt 389 and International 9900i (including, as far as I've seen, the other International trucks) that are severely lacking in customization options for aspects such as the grille, bumpers, badges, etc., meanwhile the Kenworth W900 has endless possiblities from trim levels to badges on the front fender. Name one other truck that has, like, a dozen rear bumper and front bumper options, let alone it's own accessory DLC! After all, it's not like you only see Kenworth W900s in the World of Trucks Editor's Pick section or in Screenshots/Artwork here on the Steam forums. After recently buying my Pete 389, I just feel overwhelmed by all the attention the W900 is getting.

TL:DR, the KW W900 gets way more attention in terms of customizability compared to other trucks. Why can't other trucks have their own accessory packs/legacy editions?

FYI I accidentally called the Peterbilt 579 a "589" in the original post. My bad!
probably because the w900 is the longest or second longest production vehicle ever created for the trucking industry, it had it's anniversary recently, and it's simply one of the most iconic vehicles out there.

and nope, i'm not fangirling or anything, it's just simple facts. so yeah, the big girl gets some extra attention. besides, i don't mind for example the 9900i being almost bone stock for customization. it keeps it real :)
The following has been teased already by SCS:

* The 389 is currently being reworked. They will add the 389X along with the 589. There is quite a bit of rumors about the 389 receiving a tuning pack to spice up the truck.

* The 579 may not be reworked but we are getting the 579 Next Gen.

* 9900i, for a truck that is no longer in production it does have a bit of tuning options available by default. In the meantime there are mods that add quite a bit to the truck.

No offense but you really need to learn patience. None of this stuff happens overnight.

The W900 Legacy Edition was a rush job as a request from Kenworth themselves. What is SCS supposed to do....tell Kenworth to go screw themselves and ruin a partnership? Of course not.

ETA: Remember that SCS can only add things to the truck as long as it's approved by the manufacturer. That is part of the licensing agreements. Could SCS show off a bunch of lights for every truck? Of course but then the manufacturer's have the final say on what can and cannot be included on the truck for release.

Wasn't aware of those teasers at all, thanks! Sounds interesting. Are the teasers posted on their YouTube channel or elsewhere?

They were mentioned during this past year's Christmas stream. It's about 3 hours long. Can view the recording on their Youtube page.

Thanks!
The W900 recently got a full rework + tuning pack so the current model is relatively new compared to how long the truck has been present in the game overall.
The Legacy Edition released yesterday evening in the game so naturally it's being heavily showcased right now, this is always the case whenever new content arrives.
The first WoT Editor's Pick batch right after a content release is always heavily focused on said content. Can't blame SCS for pushing it forward, and players like to try out their new toys too.

The same will be happening to the 389 as said, a full rework including 5 cab types has been confirmed and we can only speculate about the existence of a tuning pack DLC but it would be coherent we get one for this truck as well.
We know the full truck rework is coming for certain and it will override the current 389 old model to bring it to current production standards, including more customisation.

The question is When, but only SCS can answer that, and things take time.
What gets added into the game or not is decided by the truck manufacturers as they need to approve of everything SCS does.
Kenworth has been very nice for that matter with some things I didn't expect to get, like the removable front badge or rear bumpers that are 100% aftermarket and not produced by Kenworth itself. The only thing we can do is hope that Peterbilt, the sister Paccar company, understands the game and allows SCS to include a wide range of customisation for the 389 as well.

Alright now I'm SERIOUSLY looking forward to this 389 rework in the future. Will it remove the exclusive grille with the older-looking headlights though?
Surprisingly enough I just learned that the 389 was discontinued back in 2023 and has been replaced by the 589, does that mean the 389 will be removed and the 589 will take its place?

No. Not a single truck from the game has ever been removed.

Good to know
Can't know for sure what will be added but you could watch the stream that AyMazing linked to get a preview.

And no, trucks are never removed from the game even if they stop being produced IRL.
We've recently got the used truck dealer that sells out-of-production trucks whenever the newer generation is added to the game.

Removed, no, but it may be moved to the Used Truck Dealer and the 589 (if we ever get it) taking its place in the regular Peterbuilt dealership. Either way, we wont loose a truck and may only gain options.

That makes sense and also gave me an idea, that could also possibly open up the discussion of adding older trucks from the 20th century and early 2000s, having them exclusive to the used truck dealership. Would add more purpose to the used dealer
Can't believe nobody never thought of this before, replied everyone sarcastically.

This is a very, VERY frequent topic of discussion.
Acquiring licences for trucks takes time and money, SCS has repeatedly stated they're focusing on current production trucks, which brands also favor.
The list of currently known SCS projects is already extremely long not to mention all the ones we don't know about. There are several new releases still missing from the game, The 579 and T680 NG, the 2024 VNL and the new Mack Pioneer just to mention a few.
I know someone will correct me and say the Kenworth T680NG is present in the game, which is true, but we've been told it would take "a few months" to finish the truck beyond the barebones version we have now, and that was two years ago. So I'm still waiting for the actual release of the truck.
SCS isn't stupid, people have been crying for vintage classics since day 1. Sadly it's not the priority and producing new trucks is expensive in both money and manpower, SCS can't do whatever they want.
