Reversing
Ok, I can't go any longer without saying something. If I pulled in a yard and someone said to me....."reverse it into that spot on the end". I'd probably laugh. I never heard a real driver say that, but it seems normal in this game.

I would have said ..."back it into that spot on the end".

Any real drivers out there who say i'll reverse it instead of i'll back it?

They're telling you where they want it and if you can park it there, you can. If you cannot you have the option of choosing, "Let's play it safe".

It isn't completely realistic, but I understand that they're trying to add some challenge to the game. But yeah, I would say, "I can park it in that spot, but can someone move the yard dog out of the way?

I run P&D for an LTL company and we pretty much just take whatever door we need since we're in and out in less than 5 mins usually.

On the few occasions I've had to wait the warehouse person usually just says a door number.
Prior to that I ran flatbed and it was super rare we heard anything other than "pull up right there and we'll unload you"

In game I have the hardest parking automatically switched on so I just see the spot I'm going to.
Ok, I gave a bad example. I know if the yard it where you're dropping the load it gives options.

I'm just talking about saying reversing instead of backing up. I've never heard another driver say reversing instead of backing up.

"Reverse it" is just abnormal. Now that you've said it I've never heard anyone say it like that. "Back it" is about as normal as it gets, though.
Thank you Reese.

I can't help but chuckle when I hear reversing and I know it's not a real trucker.

Don't mean to be picky but if you want to sound like a real trucker don't say reversing.

all i have ever been told is to put it on bay 3 or bay whatever, no mention of reversing at all
kat55 Apr 19 @ 3:59pm
ok, go ahead and back up....
I'm a non-trucker. That being said, doesn't it make sense that if you want to unload on a specific dock or bay, that it would be understood you'd be backing the trailer into the slot?

You know, so that you could open and then unload the trailer onto the dock directly? :lunar2019piginablanket:

EDIT: So in some situations it would be weird to hear such a thing at all? That's how it worked on the loading docks at the Big 3 auto plants I worked in and around.

most i've heard over the years was things like "put it there at dock B" or "out near the back is fine". reversing is more like the terminology for the driving action, not a command you give to someone. "back it up near the fence" or something similar is what people normally say.

guess it depends on the locations though. usa, europe, australia, they all got their own lingo.
In what context is the use of 'reverse' bothering you? I don't see any difference between the English and American localisation texts involving the forms of the word reverse so I wonder whether raising a localisation error on the SCS forums (where there is a sub-forum for American) would change the language to something closer to common parlance?

It's not that it bothers me. It's just not correct in the US to say reversing. It's not just for trucks. It can be any vehicle that you can back up. I'm 82 years old and have never heard someone say reversing until I came to ATS.

I know ATS wants to be as realistic as possible. This may be a small thing, but it is one step towards realism. We move a truck forward and backward. The reverse gear moves the truck backward. The reverse gear is a mechanical part in the transmission. It's not an action. Backing up or back up is an action.

Attention Grabbing Much... All your doing Pete is getting peoples attention with these type of comments and everyone else is using this as Clickbait... Folks i tried helping the OP out and Gave up because he talked right over me while i was typing out something. sometimes you just gotta learn when to keep your mouth shut and posts like this is what brings a forum down in a hurry. sorry pete but i had to say it no offense.
I guess it’s called “reverse” because that’s what the gear is called in all motor vehicles. R on the gearshift. This post is silly mate.

If I was talking over you I didn't do it on purpose. There's no reason you should have posted it on this forum.

I've got the impression that most players want to keep ATS as real as possible. Saying i'll reverse it into that spot is not keeping it real. I'm just trying to help keep ATS real.

I've said "I'll reverse it right there" numerous times and I'm a former professional driver of 15 years. On the other hand I've also said "I'll back it in right over there."

Making a big deal about nothing is my opinion. They both coincide of doing the exact same thing.
