I think it's insufficient for the game to only receive new trucks and map updates. I've played this game for 700 hours, and I believe it needs more exciting innovations, like "extreme weather conditions." Having to drive the truck in such scenarios would require more attention, breaking the monotony of the game. For example, severe rain, strong winds, or even tornadoes.
Another improvement I'd like to see is smarter AI traffic—not like in the mods. Vehicles in traffic should respond like real drivers and have realistic driving skills.

I believe the game sufficiently accomplishes what it set out to do. It does not need to become the most intense over-stimulated cram-all-the-features type of game you seem to be wanting. There are games out there that accomplish exactly what you're asking for.

AI-traffic i.e. is a constant work in progress and got several updates over the years already.
