What are the best mods to have?
Getting a lil' bit board on sim trucking. What are some good mods to have while driving around? I don't need money or skin mods. Looking for some better lighting, smart AI traffic, realistic ambiance and sky... realistic billboards... something like those.

"Best" is very subjective.

Have a search in the Workshop to see if there are something there to your liking. Look at the descriptions, ranking and popularity. Subscribe and give them a test drive.

The workshop has a search box as well as sorting and filtering capabilities.

Also look at the date of the last update of a mod. Mods with recent updates are more likely to work without issues.

From what you can read here in the Steam chats, it seems to be best to have none.:1033:

The workshop here or the SCS forum ( https://forum.scssoft.com/viewforum.php?f=183 ) are good places to get mods as you usually get a lot of infos about the mods and you can also contact the mod author(s).

I do not use any type of mods you are looking for, so I can't recommend a specific one.

If you are looking for trucks and trailers, let me know. I can recommend a few that I use for a long time already.

When you install mods, only install / activate one at a time and test it for a while.
Create a save game before installing a new mod.
It's always a good idea to have two or more profiles. One vanilla and others for mods.
Be aware that mods can cause problems.
You have to take care of them. They might stop working or cause crashes after a game update.

Hi i use only 5 mods all from the workshop in ATS also 6 in ETS2
ATS mods
GDC logistics realistic economy
Real companys gas stations and bill boards
which are the main 2 which you maybe interested in
Also you can change traffic, lighting and other things in the config file just do a quick search here on the forum for what you want to change and i am sure somebody has already answered it
Have fun

Below i have also put the best way I've found to make sure everything is still OK when using MODS and hopfully not breaking your game

If you have mods installed then they maybe your problem.
Below is what i do every time there is an update or i have problem's with stuttering freezing or even crashing and problems with texture and graphics

There is no easy way to work through making sure all mods are working

First make sure you have verified your files and then simple run the program in vanilla first

simply follow the steps below if unsure

I always run a complete vanilla version which has never had any mods at all every time that a update is done or a crash happens. Then i do a quick job to test always do a complete quick job at every stage

Then i have a second profile where i test each mod for compatibility where i can remove any that are not updated making sure to do a quick job at each stage keeping any mods active that don't cause a problem

Just add one mod at a time running a quick job for each one then leaving all mods that don't cause a crash activated do the same again always make sure that you do a quick job

Then i have a third profile which is my main game profile which is always working as the first two steps make sure everything is fine.

Hopefully this will help you find any mod that's broken

The best mod is no mod IMO.

Every update, the board is flooded with "mi gam crashd this update sukz" posts, and it always turns out the OP is running 27 mods. Typically there's one fairly common mod that didn't work with the new update and broke the game for thousands of people until either they uninstall the mod, or the mod author updates it.

But you're basically at the whim of people who may or may not be interested in keeping their mod up to date and certainly have no real incentive to do so.

Have never downloaded or installed a mod, and my game has never crashed. Weird, I know.

I only use a handfull of mods and never had a gamecrash either. Weird, I know.

No, it's not weird. As long as you know what you're doing. With using mods comes a responsibility. As long as you take that, mods are not that bad as some wants us to believe.

I use mods for better engine sounds (although SCS seems to be getting a little better mixing sounds with new releases). Also traffic mods to put more traffic in the game, Realistic companies changes the fictional companies to real ones, (job sites, truck stops, etc.) as well as adding real company trailers to AI trucks,. Also company skins for my own trucks when I want to be a company driver (Swift, Schneider, CCC, etc.).

Totally agree...more mods equals more problems...but that is up to the individual player of course. I learned this the hard way after years of experience....Vanilla is the way for my main profile...If I feel the need to play around with mods I use another less important profile....just my .02 cents.

Trucks/engine sounds/maps best ones to extend your interest in my opinion.

And don't mind the people talking about crashing, that's only an issue if you don't take time to learn load orders, how to revert to the previous game version, etc..
