Please don't expect a laptop or notebook to look too good, even if it is labelled "gaming".
As suggested, yes, I do have the game scaling set to 400% (and 200% for shadows).
Besides. It's not a 'AAA' game and isn't marketed as such. This is especially true for those playing on old or outdated hardware, or who are looking to "set it and forget it".
It's not that kind of game, exactly as mojo_musica, ttower, and TPopBCornD, have explained.
Happy Holidays!
I'm temporarily playing the game on my 'gaming' laptop (it has a 3070 GPU, FWIW) while I sort something out and it looks almost as good as my gaming desktop, but that has a 1080 (Founders edition) so it's debatable which should give the better graphics, I don't like to turn it up too much on the laptop as I don't want it to cook, and I tend to run my 1080 in an efficient manner to extend it's lifespan (not burn it) and keep it running as cool as reasonably possible, a balancing act which isn't really possible with a laptop.
There are mods for seasons and things like texture mods (mountains etc) which can improve the realism and immersion, but if you're expecting the latest UE5 look then you may be waiting a while, just like those of us who are waiting for the UK map refresh (among other original map areas untouched since the game launched). The more recently reworked base map areas and newer DLC maps make the game look much better simply because they use more sophisticated map assets and techniques / tricks, so consider investing in map DLCs if you want a quick solution to improved graphics.
