4x2 vs 6x2...
Question: If only one axle is doing the driving, what is the advantage to going with 6x2 vs staying with 4x2? This is kinda both a real life question and a game question. In game the stats don't appear to change any.

I started to ask about staying with a short chassis vs a long chassis but I think I found one advantage there, there fuel tank. Then it would be # of fuel stops vs maneuveratility.

I don't know, I always choose 6x4 on those american trucks.

4x2
Maneuverability both real and game.
Real world less money spent on tires.

6x2 is for weight distribution and per axle weight laws.

I'm not sure about ATS since I don't use 4x2 there, but in ETS2 there seems to be far more stability with a 6x2 and a loaded trailer compared to a 4x2. I would guess there is a similar effect in ATS.

This effect is much less pronounced in ATS because the trucks are longer, so they are more stable.

For the OP, as already mentioned, 6x2 gives you more axles to distribute weight.

Thank you for the answers.

Because of compliance in real life. Axle load is restricted in EVERYWHERE, no matter you drive a truck in USA, France, China or other countries. In a word, you can transport heavier load if your tractor and trailer have more axle, which means you can earn more.
Compliance seems not a problem in game, but a serious problem for drivers in real life.

Also applies to trains, buses, tanks.. well, pretty much anything that moves. Ground pressure and axle loads are always limited, and like you say, the more you can carry safely, the more money you can make.
Another difference is a 6x2 chassis only can "drive". With a 6x4 both of the rear tandems can. Only the front tandem normally drives, but if you lose traction you can lock in the rear so both drive.
