Yes, World of Trucks is a website maintained by SCS, the game developer. WoT generates the jobs in External Contracts and External Market. However it is not mandatory to use so you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
http://support@worldoftrucks.com for assistance.
WoT runs all the ATS events and rewards, and logs all your WoT deliveries and awards you achievements.
It is totally optional, nobody is forced to sign up, but you will miss out on the events and awards (paint jobs, interior decorations etc). All the WoT jobs are different to the normal game jobs and you can finish them in real time, which some players find useful if they have limited time for playing sessions.
It's part of the SCS community ethos to keep players engaged and interested.
I did go straight to the WoT website, and contact them via http://support@worldoftrucks.com for assistance.
Just thought that additionally I might learn something more from the player base, so again thanks for confirming and for your help.
I strongly suspect that ttower is on the right track "...already signed up for world of trucks the last time you played" and I've once again lost track of another account / login.
Losing track of my accounts happens all to often to me the older I get. :) As long as it's not my bank account, we're all good.
