As a newcomer, should I play American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator?
Which one is better for newcomers? Which one do fans of the series start out with? or Most of you? Thank you!

It depends entirely on what you want. Euro has cities closer together while American has vast stretches of road.
Euro also has more variety in scenery because everything is closer together. American does have variety, but you have to drive farther to see it.
I liked the design of American trucks more so I went with this one.

The games are built on the same software engine and have identical user interfaces and play in exactly the same way so it literally comes down to what sort of trucks you prefer and, certainly at the moment, how much you want to be able to customise your trucks (at present ETS2 has a greater range of customisation options).

i started out with the original Euro Truck Simulator and then bought ETS2 on launch day and then later on bought ATS when that was launched.

Both games have a demo version, though they aren't based on the latest version of the game, specially for ETS2 the newer dlc look much better than the base map that's in the demo.
The same goes for ATS more or less, but it's a newer game so the base map is somewhat better than the ETS2 one quality wise.
Anyhoo, you could at least give them a try to see which kind of trucks and road network you prefer.

In general i would say ETS2 is more "work" when playing, for example: where ATS has stop signs and a lot more traffic lights which are easier to manouvre through than the ETS2 give way signs and roundabouts.
The stop signs and traffic lights really annoy me in ATS, but that's a personal opinion :-)
ETS2 has ferries and toll booths and border crossings specially tollbooths can be nice or annoying in some countries depending on how you like to play.
ATS has some more scenic routes, for ETS2 you really need the newer dlc for that.

ETS2 has some nicer (and larger) map mods out there, but most require all, or almost all map dlc.
If you like the ATS map better, but prefer to drive cabovers there are some nice cabover mods for ATS.

edit: (parts of) the base maps for both games are getting reworked, or have been already, for ETS2 Germany's rework has finished and some parts of France have been reworked to match the France dlc, NL, BE and the UK still need a rework.
Not up to scratch for ATS, but i believe they have started rework on California.

Sawadikah Poogie, I started with ETS and later found that ATS is easier. If only because of the vastness of the landscape and the highways.
I would start with ATS. Got the Volvo too.

After playing both, I can say that ATS is more boring. The roads are mostly highways, the scenery is more or less the same everywhere, and the Trucks are way "heavier" to drive than ETS's ones. They don't turn as much etc.

ETS has better scenery all along, a better map overall, and better trucks. (Maybe not look wise, but they're more customizable.)

I'd go for ETS2 everytime

Just get both and swap depending on your mood. Problem solved .

I would also say that you should get both if you can. If that's not an option I'd go for ETS2. It just feels like a more complete game to me. And you can get the ProMods map expansion which makes the game even better.
There's nothing wrong with ATS. I play and enjoy both games. I just prefer ETS2.

As a new player, looking for a nice casual experience with lots of room to run around, I'd go with ETS2. Much easier overall to play because of the shorter trucks. Roads are just as wide as the ATS roads, but they're much easier to drive upon.
