does the differential lock actually do anything in-game and examples of when it is needed?
i just found out about the differential lock feature in the game and what i've learned about this feature is in real life it's used when you need more traction for example driving on steep, slippery, and/or uneven surfaces.

while playing ats i have never had problems driving because of steep, slippery, uneven surfaces, etc, so i'm wondering if the simulation physics in-game has anything in it that would create a situation where the differential lock feature is needed or if this feature is just cosmetic.

if you have an example of when the use of the differential lock was needed in-game please share it i'd like to hear it.

Yes. When you're Hill climbing, or when you are on a dirty road.

Most commonly needed going up logging roads with heavy loads and sometimes in the rain. I had one IRL and it was useful in so many conditions. You could engage it on the fly as long as you weren't going too fast and you hadn't got to the point where one wheel was spinning. I wish the game let you do that. As soon as I get on a logging road I engage it because otherwise, if you need it, you'll have to come to stop to engage it and there goes your momentum.

As a part of the Operation Big Sur event, part of the trip was on a gravel road that greatly benefited from the differential lock.

So yes, I can confirm it does make a difference in the simulation. You just need to find the right roads / conditions to use it in - which admittedly is pretty rare.

i definitely used it when on the logging roads and at times when i'd be near a ditch with one wheel in the air (those switchbacks are brutal)

Most of the time I get a short warning message to engage/disengage differential lock when needed.

Yes, just follow the suggestions, I think it will only give you the message when the diff lock will actually help.

Get the benson end dump trailer and you`ll find youself using that the differential all the time with that trailer

my problem was in the logging yard I got trapped between 2 hills and no traction to get out of it, did not know how to lock axels so I gave up the load at a cost of over 100 thousand.
