What Controller Do You Play With
So i'm looking at this since it's on sale but is a driving controller highly recommended to be able to play this or would a gamepad or keyboard/mouse be ok? What do all of you use?

It is playable with a keyboard. I would however suggest a controller. Xbox 360, etc. Best device however is a wheel in my opinion.

►My Trucking Gear:

Thrustmaster TX Servo
Ferarri 599xx Evo Alcantara Wheel Rim
Thrustmaster T3PA Pedals
Thrustmaster TH8A Shifter
TrackIR 5
Tech Affliction Mega Shifter(no longer available)
Derek Speare Designs FLT1 Button Box
GT Omega Classic Wheel Stand

ETA: Looks like you have just purchased this? I see the mouse icon next to your name which shows you own it.

I'm using a SKRS Gear Shifter knob. It was very easily attached to my Logitech g27 (discontinued) gear shifter. It gives me the splitter and the hi-lo lever so I can experiment with the 13, 15, or 18 speed manual transmissions.

I use keyboard for driving and it works fine imo. Considering switching to the mouse, but I'm not a big fan of having to hold a key down to look around.
I used a keyboard for a long time, and it's perfectly doable with it. However, once I got a wheel/gear stick/pedals (logitech g29) I never looked back. It's a relatively expensive option, but if you are playing the game a lot (plus any other driving sims) it is very much worth it in my opinion. Just make sure you get a 900º wheel if you go that way as the game is designed with that in mind (although you can play with smaller rotations as well just not as well).

Never played it with a pad, so can't comment on that..

Wheel - Logitech G27- with Wheel Stand Pro.
Controller - Xbox One - Use this most.

I swap between the two depending on my mood or what I intend to do in the game.

I have used keyboard and mouse, but would not recommend.
I also tried a X52 Pro Joystick once and that was laughable. I am sure some people can play with a joystick in this game, just not me.

For better realism get a wheel that has 900 degrees rotation. No need to get shifters or a clutch pedal unless that is your thang. Most trucks now are automatics anyway.

I would say you'll want a gamepad at the absolute least. A wheel and pedals are ideal, as long as money isn't an issue. I wouldn't recommend a keyboard and mouse as anything more than a temporary solution while you wait for something better to arrive in the mail.

It depends on how good you can use a Keyboard and Mouse to drive. I am crap at using them for driving and when I first played ETS 2 I had 3 accidents just getting out of the company gates on my first delivery.

I then bought an Xbox 360 wired controller and that was a lot better and I played with that until I bought my first wheel but I found it difficult to control the truck at speed and turns were jerky and I had difficulty making deliveries without having an accident. Even now in games which have vehicles and don't have wheel support I find it difficult to control vehicles. My thumbs are unable to have precise control of the joysticks and even in shooting games I find the joy sticks difficult to control. So again it depends on how good you are at controlling a gamepad.

I am in the older age bracket of gamers and my reactions are not as good as when I was younger and although I started playing computer games back in the early 90's I have never been able to control a keyboard and mouse like I see many younger people and I only got a gamepad in recent years and cannot use it like I see many younger players either.

However, a 900 degree rotation steering wheel on the other hand is easy to use and I am able to have precise control of the trucks. I have been driving most of my life so using a racing wheel is comfortable and makes any driving game easier and much more enjoyable. As with most driving games, the game was actually designed for using a steering wheel. It is the best choice by far if you can afford it and I highly recommend it.

These are what I use to play the game.

Thrustmaster T500 RS Racing Wheel
Thrustmaster Leather 28 GT Wheel Add-On
Fanatec Clubsport V3 Inverted Pedals
Thrustmaster TH8A Shifter
Tech Affliction Eton Fuller Mega Shifter with Jake Brake (Company now defunct)
Saitek (Now made by Logitech) Farming Simulator Heavy Equipment Side Panel
TrackIr 5

I have g25 wheel and pedal setup I bought new way back. I recently upgraded the shifter to a TH8A which is really nice. I too have an SKRS type shift knob with jake button built in. I built a dedicated racing sim with all of this quite a while ago and I recently built a dash panel using two arduino boards to control everything I can imagine controlling without resorting to the keyboard. I can cycle dash maps and display as well as HUD maps and displays from the panel. Also inside and chase view plus all important truck functions including radio/audio player select, skip and volume. Foot operated dimmer and separate signals. Forty some functions in all. The seat is from a Hyundai Tiburon. I would like to adapt a more appropriate steering wheel to my g25 and have just downloaded a hub adapter I can 3d print. Still looking for a steering wheel.

I have spent a lot of time in the past with racing sims of all sorts but I have never been drawn in to them the way this one got a hold of me.

Tobii Eyetracker 4c
Thrustmaster TX base
Thrustmaster Ferrari 250 GTO wheel
Thrustmaster TH8A shifter
Thrustmaster T3PA PRO pedals
Razer Keyboard and Mouse (tbh just for the colour feedback)
Xbox One controller (for opening windows and direction blinkers)
Saitek buttonbox (from the Farm Sim set for other stuff like hand brake, engine brake, wipers, etc,)
Sim Dashboard on tablet (can play without it, but it makes the dials better readable for me).

Though playing casualy for a short time with just the keyboard and mouse is ok
when it's setup properly and the same goes for a pad controller like Xbox one, once you're
used to playing with better equipment there's no going back imho.
I've played with just keyboard and mouse, and later an Xbox controller before i had the wheel, pedals and shifter and it's a world of difference.

I'm no hardcore simulation player, so i use a gamepad. I use a Steamcontroller due to the pedals on the back for shifting and the touchpad for camera controls.

Xbox series x controller + keyboard.

Sometime Oculus quest 2.
xbox controller is fine ... been using a 360 before getting my wheel (T150)... won´t recommend mouse/ kb... anyone who says different never experienced how much smoother it is with a controller or even a cheap wheel :D

m/kb is torture in comparison
