Exhaust Smoke

Is there a way to turn on exhaust smoke for the trucks in ATS? I miss seeing the smoke roll from the stacks as haul my load down the road

You can but when you turn off your truck, the smoke still comes out of the stacks.
NOT very realistic.

They are, I think, just taking an existing animation of smokestack smoke and tacking it onto the truck exhaust pipe(s) and so it does not change shape with speed etc

They don't smoke. You have heat coming out of it or steam but not smoke (Steam is not smoke!).

My brother-in-law is a salesman for Mack and Volvo and confirmed that today's rigs mostly emit heat vapour caused by the exhaust converting system (I forget the actual name). There really is no smell and definitely no visible smoke otherwise they get pulled over by our Canadian "Green" Highway Police. Very 'spensive ticket indeed.
