CPU CHOICE
Going for new system. Have always had INTEL, was thinking going AMD.
I thought I would get some input from any preference by some.
Thanks.

I have been using a Ryzen 5 3600 for the past 2 years. Great CPU actually.

No more paying Intel's pricing for a small performance bump. Plus all Ryzen CPU's are factory unlocked for overclocking. Just make sure you have a decent enough cooler to do this. Prebuilt stock extremely poor coolers(unless its an closed loop liquid cooler) are not good for any overclocking.

Got AMD love it.

I switched from Intel to AMD Ryzen 7 in my most recent build early this summer and have been completely satisfied. For me it was the better bang for the buck at that time. Both have very satisfied user bases generally. AMD used to be a little more problematic than Intel generally in my experience, a decade-plus ago. Not anymore IMO.

If you're building your own desktop, note that it's gotten harder to do this than a few years ago due to supply shortages. Everyone knows video cards are hard to come by, but there are minor supply shortages of chips, motherboards, and peripherals as well. In some cases you'll be looking for what compatible gear is in stock and having to buy from multiple vendors to piece a good system together. I elected to reuse my Direct 11X video card and hope to be able to upgrade to 12X with improved supply and better pricing a year from now, but who knows? GPU shortages could get even worse.

My last 3 builds have been with ASRock motherboards and AMD processors, current one has a Ryzen 7 and I absolutely love it. No issues what so ever so far.
I've found the AMD processors to be stable and easy to tweak, if necessary, though I rarely find the need to overclock them, they seem to do well right out of the box, and paired with a nice ASRock gaming motherboard, I think that it's a combo that just can't be beat.
Well worth looking into in my opinion.

I'm a weirdo and elected for an Intel 11900K with an EVGA Z590 mobo; build was completed just a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it, excellent performance overall and I've only ever used EVGA mobos over my last five builds...absolutely no issues there.

Like Wensleydale154 above, I had to stick with my aging 2070ti until a 3070 becomes available at the right price.

If you are upgrading from an old PC, you will want to reuse your GPU if possible, due to market pricing right now. If you do not have an old PC to reuse parts from, I would suggest considering a prebuilt. I am all for building your own PC, but buying a GPU is so expensive right now, you can sometimes find a prebuilt that will be a better value. You do have to look, to make sure you dont get ripped off by other components in a prebuilt, but it is something to consider

I run both, all depends what you are doing with it. If you do a lot of multi-tasking or gaming broadcasting AMD is a better performer (in general) but is more sensitive to memory timing if you really want it to perform.

You really can't go wrong with either, the price differential is a lot smaller now that you need to buy a cooler for AMD.

THANK YOU ALL.

Intel make the fastest chips but once all the security workarounds have been applied they're about as fast as the CPU in my old C64. Well recommended if you're looking to get into the information security industry.
