But ti can be overridden by a mod.
The capacity of the ad-blue tank is in the chassis definition file. At least it is in ETS2 trucks. ATS trucks also have the fuel tank size declared in chassis file.
If the adblue attribute isn't present in your truck's chassis def file, you can add it on its own line in the relevant def file. Thus:
I have seen adblue tank sizes of 10000 being suggested by users at SCS Forums in response to some question about making the adblue size unlimited for the very reason stated by the OP here.
If you've increased the size of the stock tank in the chassis file but not the add blue, you will run out of add blue before you run out of diesel. So if you increase the fuel tank size, increase the add blue tank size by a similar percentage.
If you haven't changed the size of the stock tank you will likely never see the add blue warning.
I think it only depends on the chassis file. If the mod creator put the add blue line in that is where it would be right under tank size. If it was unrealistic to put the line in on a mod that only had older or vintage engines I would expect the creator to leave the add blue out.
I've only ever seen the add blue warning come up when I first increased the size of a tank and hurried off to try it out without looking one line further down and changing the add blue line. Live and learn.
On the engine front, I like to use ZeeMod engine and sound files. When you look in one, there is no mention of fuel, tank size or add blue. It's mostly just description, torque and torque curve etc.
Ah ok, the ones I've edited probably didn't have the add blue line.
Just checked the k100e chassis files and the adblue_tank_size line is commented out...
