Mirrors..two questions
Can someone recommend the best mirror mod (workshop). Looking to get most realistic views for docking trailers.

Also how should the front mirrors be used? I like to use them to see my lane position. Is that what they are for?

I don't use mirror mods so I can't help there.

Lane position is good for the hood mirrors but they also allow you to see into your blind spots, especially if a car is on your passenger door.

The most realistic mirror views for docking trailers should be found within the game, you should not need a mod for it. The mirrors are positioned where they are in the real trucks, so the most realistic view is what you can get through the game itself.

If you did not know, Press F4, and from there you are able to adjust the mirror and seat position

Same here as the quote above, don't use any mirror mods, and agree completely about the purpose of the hood mirrors. Additionally:

For a good driver it only takes a short amount of time behind the wheel to internalize and be able to visualize exactly where the rig is positioned laterally in a lane. So I'm thinking that with hood mirrors, eliminating the blind spot is the primary purpose as AyMazingATS pointed out.

All the same, I'd also add this: All mirrors have the purpose of reducing blind spots and improving direct visual observation for the driver = improved situational awareness = less incidents/miles driven.

OP: In my experience (mostly around the loading docks of large automobile manufacturing facilities here in the U.S. from the mid 70's thru 2007) the most realistic mirrors to use would be the ATS default main cab side rear views, right and left - as ttower pointed out.

Sometimes there might be a large circular floor stand mirror to the immediate side of a dock that was equipped with ramps that were lowered down onto the trailer, the mirror helped a driver get in correct position for forklift ramps to be dropped down onto the trailer without further trailer position adjustments - a "one and done" backup into correct positioning for ramp deployment and ready for immediate unloading/loading by forklift trucks.

Maybe there is also widespread use of wireless back-up cams these days, I couldn't say as I've not been around these types of places for over 15 years now and I'm sure things have changed.

I use the True Mirror FOV for ATS mod.

It's closer to real life fov than the default ATS and it's much better for reversing as you can actually see things in better detail.

"flat mirrors" gies a true reflection of what a semi trailer looks like in RL.

SCS does have this too without the need for a mod. They have it hidden in the config file inside your profile folder ---- uset g_phys_mirrors

uset g_phys_mirrors "1" <--- Physical mirrors active. zoomed in a little
uset g_phys_mirrors "0" <--- Physical mirrors not active, zoomed out view
