ATS Validating, Patching, Validating, Patching....
Seems to be stuck in some loop where it just goes from validating to patching and then back to validating. It's not actually patching the game. It's a 20.3GB patch apparently. I did clear download cache but that didn't do anything. Not seeing any kind of log file to look for potential issues, any ideas why it's stuck on validating and updating but never actually updates?

Thanks.

Do you have enough free space on your SSD?

HDD, and right now I have 199GB free on my E:\ drive which is where ATS is installed. My next thought was I read earlier something about repairing the folder, but only saw clearing the download cache, and if that didn't work, repair the folder was second in this article I read.

It isn't a 20.3 Gb patch, you are misinterpreting the download manager information.
The game file structure has been changed by SCS to make the install process quicker, by splitting the previous large file for the whole game into smaller sections, reducing the time required for updating.
The game's full install size is then verified and confirmed to have been updated correctly.

This is all Steam's responsibility, not SCS's. Problems with Steam can be:
a low speed Internet connection, low free space on not just the game install disk, but the system (Windows install) disk, Steam cache full or corrupted, or A/V and firewall causing problems.

Clearing the Steam cache, re-starting Steam and checking the other items may clear it up, but it is not usually anything to do with the game itself, mainly it is Steam or your PC.

All I know is where the download happens, it says 20.3GB. Ain't my PC because everything's been running fine. The only thing that I can think of is, one night Steam was patching ATS, maybe 4 days ago, and I shut down Steam in the middle of that patching, but Steam offered to stop the patch and close. My guess is that closing of Steam somehow affected the patch.

I did see this in another forum, so that'll be my next step then.

Ya think? Only the most damaging thing you can do during that operation.:steamfacepalm:
And the update was still not 20 Gb, watch the "manage downloads" page carefully next time there is a patch or update and see what the process is, it is also still Steam, not the game or SCS managing all this.

"Ain't my PC " says every player on here with over 100 mods and a potato from 12 years ago. :steammocking:
Funny how it's always the "best" PC's that have the most errors.:steamfacepalm:

Try deleting the download cache before you reinstall the game.

You sure read into a lot that I didn't even say. Wow. But I don't think you understood what it was I said.

When I closed Steam, it said something about stopping the patch with the loading circle. So I just waited until that closed. If closing Steam was going to be a problem, then the message should have been, "warning, closing Steam during a patch will cause damage" That wasn't the message I got from Steam when I tried to close it. So explain that to me.

The game installation is 20.91GB on my hard drive, but when it does the patching progress it shows 1.2GB/20.26GB. That doesn't make any sense why it would say 20GB if it's not 20GB.

No, my PC isn't a brand new piece of junk, built it back in 2015. So it's not a crap laptop to start with, it exceeds recommended specs for ATS (which doesn't matter in this instance)

2015 to 2024, that's 9 years not 12. But love the helpful attitude. Next time, don't bother.

Okay, I'll give that a try. I did try to verify files just to see, and it did say it was unable to verify 1 file and that it was reacquiring the file. Right now it's validating again, but this is right after I did the verify files thing. So if this doesn't work, then my next thing I will do is the uninstall and delete the download cache again.

Thank you.

you have a corrupted file. goto /steam/logs . next open content_log.txt . in the file it will tell you witch file is corrupted, and its location. delete the corrupted file and validate with steam. steam should see the missing file and replace it with a new one.

I saw this post of what you are saying but there is no /steam/logs folder. There is /SteamLibrary/ and in that folder is /steamapps/ and the only files I have are libraryfolder.vdf and steam.dll. I did see in one of my other games folders the content_log.txt but that file or folder does not exist under the SteamLibrary folder for me.

steamlibrary is the secondary steam file location. when steam ask to install to another drive it will be in that folder. the drive that steam was installed on will have a root directory of /steam

if you have the steam desktop icon you can right click on it and choose open file location and it will open to the root directory
