Driving Academy is great honestly
Noticed it newly today. Tried it out.
These are tutorials that would've greatly helped me about when I first started playing, because the original first tutorial threw me off the deep end straight into traffic & roads after the bare basics.

I don't know why some people complain that it isn't valid real-life training. It's American Truck SIMULATOR. It's a video game, and a mighty deep one at that. These tutorials are a fantastic additions to the game.

I agree for those who are new to the game, but some who have played the game from the beginning and don't need a tutorial may prefer the time be spent fixing bugs, other issues, and completing remaining DLC's.....given the game has been out for many years without a tutorial.

To each their own though.

It might feature more advanced scenarios in the future. Maybe the return of challenges from Scania Truck Simulator.

Well, the feature doesn't seem like it was in development for very long considering how short the time between announcement and release was. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something that was designed by a small team at the company in their spare time between working on other projects. And while SCS is not a huge company it's not like they only have a few employees, they always have multiple projects and teams working at once, so it's not as if they can only work on one thing at a time.

IIRC it was first teased on Christmas 2019 or 2020 2021 I guess.
I even made an April fools joke back then:

Huh, I see. I didn't know that.

I've been playing ATS since day one and ETS2 since two years after its initial release. I believe Driving Academy should have been a feature since day one to teach new players how to drive a truck in the game. That being said, I think Driving Academy is missing a few essential topics:
1) How and when to use the engine brake and retarder. Most people have never driven a real truck before and knowing how and when to use secondary brakes is an essential skill. And
2) On the road training. When a student driver learns the basics, he/she is going to be put behind the wheel of a big rig with an instructor for on the road training, delivering freight from point A to point B and learning how to deal with real traffic and varying road conditions and situations.

I'll add more:

3) Brake management. Currently, Driving Academy forces the "Simulated air brake simulation" disabled, which is understandable for the early lessons. Perhaps one lessons will orient the players on how airbrakes work, how it was consumed and replenished, what does the beeping sound mean, and why the truck seemed to refuse to move even after the handbrake is off.

4) Navigation and world map, particularly using the pins (and especially avoid pins). Very useful for detours, since they are enabled by default, avoid a protected park, or just hunting a viewpoint.

5) Manual transmission. The concept of power band, and tips of choosing the optimum gear for various situations.

6) Auxiliary features: lift axles, diff lock, beacons, etc. Diff lock very important for loose surfaces.

7) Nighttime and inclement weather training.

That would be good in ETS2.
Today's lesson: How to deal with drivers who don't know how to merge after a toll booth and smash right into your trailer.
Extend your arm. Extend your middle finger. Very good, well done.
