I've been playing ETS2 and ATS with m&kb for years, haven't tried controller yet. But to answer your question yes, it's very enjoyable even without a wheel.

Can't speak for keyboard and mouse but most certainly enjoyable with a controller (preferably with analog triggers)

Yes, I play with KB and mouse.

Yes its totally fine with mouse and keyboard, if your turning using keyboard keys you might do a jenky shuffle on bends but its totally fine. The main tip would be to crank up the sensitivity to max for turning on fast bends and to live almost entirely using cruise control.

You can use the controller to drive and still use your keyboard for commands and stuff. Thats what I did before getting a wheel and it was still fun. Wheel is worth it though!

While you can play on keyboard, a simple cheap controller with analog inputs for gas, brake, and steering makes a huge improvement. I bought an Xbox 360 controller years ago for $30, and it was well worth it for this game. I now have a wheel, but the controller was the upgrade that was most worthwhile.

It's very enjoyable. I would recommend a tracker mouse.

As you can see many have answered yes. I will say it's possible, and even entertaining, but i do fully recommend searching facebook marketplace or some classified for a used wheel and pedals. They can be as cheap as a new controller, like $40. If you like the game, a cheap forced feedback wheel is good, and if you want a whole new level, grab a used Meta Quest 2, or other cheap VR goggles. it's like you're sitting in the truck.

Can't talk about keyboard and mouse, but I did play this game with controller ever since I bought it shortly after it was released and ETS2 since December 2014 and I definitely enjoyed it. Will you enjoy this game more with a wheel and pedals? Definitely. But with controller it's still pretty enjoyable experience. Since there's so many key commands, you will still need a keyboard (and I highly suggest you one with numpad), but basic functions can be easily mapped on controller for enjoyable experience.

I've played for 2 years, with only the keyboard. I'm amazed at how well I can maneuver now without needing a steering wheel.

Yep. For the former, mouse steering recommended.
