How to use the weighing station (scales?)

So I saw the icon for a weighing station at a petrol station and got curious about it, but can't seem to operate it. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

You can only use a weighing station when a message pops up on the screen and ask you to drive in on the next station.

OP is reffering to the scales at some gas/rest stops. I dont think they are functional. IRL they are used check weight after being loaded to make sure the load is balanced and is actually the weight posted on bill of laiding.

Non-functional? Are you sure? They are explicitly marked by icons on your GPS.

I was asked to drive in and check my weight when I found one for the first time. They work the same as fuel/rest.

They do function. I was near a police vehicle and about to pass a weight scale and it said that they want me to drive in and weight. A truck in front of me (AI) also went in to weight before me.
