I know a couple of truckers and even some good companies that will never ever touch California because of their stupid laws, not only truck speed but there's other rules I'm not aware that are far worst than speed limits there.
Plus the CHIPs totally rekt those truckers to LOVE IT.
Why? You may wonder?
Cause when I drive through all the other states all the truckers are asshats who drive like they're racing. Speed limit is 65? They're going 85... yea.. I love watching a truck just fly past me like I'm standing still.
Wow I've observed the opposite. Most truckers want low insurance rates so drive within the speed limit.
TheQuagmire, 85 really? most trucks are geared for and goverened by the company they run for between 60 and 70 MPH, a handful run less like prime at 58, some O/O run up to 70-75, personaIly I ran 65, decent economy and a safetly margin for when ignorant 4 wheelers who blame trucks for everything start playing games.
Knoxx, economy as well, in my best truck, a Pete 587, fully loaded 62 got me 7.5ish depending on terrain, bumping it up to 65 (truck was geared for 65) dropped it to 7.3, and 70 was 6.5 or less. With 500-600+ miles a day it adds up.
Tazburg, it continues for "safety" reasons, but creates a new danger, which the almighty rulers in cali are blind to, with cars travelling 10-20 MPH faster depending on the areas speed limit, or more if you include speeding. Doesn't sound like much but a car going under the DOT bar of a trailer is not a pretty sight.
California could easily drop 55 mph especially outside urban areas. Speed differences are big blind spot to speed limiter rules. Trucks sometimes need to move over at times and speed limiter may cause an accident rather than prevent.
Speed limiter rules are always political demension to it something some people too blind or ignorant to notice.
It's like people driving 90 on the highways where I live. Their heart is in the right place, I suppose, but we have some two lane highways where the only place you get a dedicated passing lane is up hill (to get around trucks), and the people accelerating up to 130 to get past them before the hill runs out are definately offsetting all the environment saving captain slow ass is accomplishing. That's ignoring the fact that angry people don't drive effeciently, and are prone to causing accidents.
I'm inclined to agree with South Park on this one, as told in the 'Smug' episode.
In this case, I don't mind if SCS get's the speed limit wrong at least long enough to add a couple more states in. I've had enough driving at unreasonably slow speeds in Europe. Once there is enough map that I can avoid Cali (just like real life truckers!) I wont care, but until then I want to drive highway speed dammit!
Although maybe it should be more realistic. :)
Around here in ND during harvest season, the speed limits are rarely if ever enforced on farm trucks and semi's. It is not uncommon to see a truck loaded with grain going 75 in a 55 on the county roads and even upwards of 80 at times though they tend to keep it just under 80 on the interstate. Most cops just flash them to warn them to slow down. Rarely do you ever see one pulled over. Weather can turn so fast the cops know that farmers have a hard time as it is getting their crops to the elevators let alone trying to do it adhering to speed limits. Granted all the roads around here are straight for 80 miles and you can see 10 miles down the road....
I live in Minnesota seen it here too and flash speed sirens as warning rather than pull over trucks and cars. I visit California by car bit never want drive a semi there because of rules and regs.
