American Truck Simulator

Total cost of the game
So the base game is 20 dollars/euros, and will come with 3 states. America has 50 states, so we will have to buy an additional 47 states. If I look at the map DLC prices of Euro Truck Simulator, each state will cost around 10 dollars/euros. Hopefully each state will cost us about 3 to 6 dollars, but say 10. You will pay 490 dollars/euros to only get the full base game, and then they want to expand even further towards Canada and Mexico, adding more money to their pocket. What is this pay per state thing all about?

I know they need a fan base to fund their progress, but why are map expansions always so expensive at SCS?

That's how they make money, and they aren't that expensive, if you have a lot of money. ;-)

Scandinavia did cost 20€ and added 3 Countries, and going east was more expensive than your estimate of 10 $/€ too at release.

So i would just wait and see how it will come in the future instead of worrying about that now.

I'm more concerned about the lengh of time between map expansions rather than the costs. Considering how long it's taken for ETS 2 DLC, I have trouble seeing them able to put out more than 2-3 states per year.

I'd say $90-100 for the whole USA

If you want to pay 3-5$ for dlcs then the quality will reflect it. The reason why they are priced the way they are is because SCS puts effort and detail into their DLC's.

If you're like me and will get each DLC right when it releases, then the cost per year might be 30-40 dollars, assuming they pump out 1 or 2 DLCs per year. If you look at it that way, it doesn't seem as much money. Remember, ATS will take years to complete, so the $400 dollars we may spend will be over said years.

All buy most DLC as it comes out, but I do believe probadly $200 to $500 for the whole map with USA, Canada, Alaska, Mexico.

Just think Brazil and South America will be seperate product not attached to ATS. Realty is Mexico only Latin American country that really belongs in ATS as it road signage and highway layout is close to North America standard and not EU standard.

Maybe Cuba as it lifts embargo start to deliver what they been missing for 60 years with ferries in New Orleans, and Miami, and Tampa opened up.

Look at it this way alomost each state is the greater in size then a country in europe more for your buck. I really hope they bring a true mulitplayer to this game.

I highly doubt they are going to release state by state... Maybe Texas? But most States aren't all that big... California and Texas, Alaska as well... However most of Alaska is very remote, and well you need to go through Canada to get to it anyways via road.

I could see them releasing these three states as the base game... While it keeps us occupied. They would be working on various states and release them as a pack, maybe three states a piece for X amount... Who knows though.

ATS is different price and production model than ETS

I don't think that it's too expensive. Yes maybe it's more than a 100 bucks, but you don't pay that at once. I guess or much more hope that we all have some money to spend on these DLCs every few months...

I know the original prices, but I went for a 'per country' perspective, as you will pay per state in American Truck Simulator. Maybe that gave some confusion, sorry :)

That's my concern too. I think the biggest part of the fanbase has lost interest in the simulator before they have reached the Eastcoast. Time will tell us but I highly doubt this business model is going to work.

I will probably get each and every DLC on launchday. However, if they are going to charge over 15 dollars/euros per state I don't think a lot of people will actually buy each state when it launches. Waiting for a summer or winter sale seems like a better bet to save huge chunks of money.

In their last blog post they announced that they will probably release one state per dlc, but I like your perspective, there are a lot small states in the USA that shouldn't take too long to render in full detail, considering SCS only scans the roads and just doesn't care about the scenery beyond the horizon.
