ATS questions
Hello Y'all, I would like to say two thing before a list of questions:
1: I don't yet own ATS
2: I have no idea what i am doing, so please be respectful, and open to guidance- Thanks!

Okay, so I have been looking into getting into ATS, but curious about peoples opines.
I am looking at this game for the game/fun, but I hope to get into in IRL in a couple years, and want to know if its worth buying as a IRL teacher? (believe me, I know it aunt the real deal) but does the driving/life/fun come through at all?

How about the map(s)/DLC's? Do the DLC maps compare decent to real life? Could it teach you some of the major highways/freeways if u don't know them?
Does Steam put the DLC's on sale often, as Epic Games would if they sold this game, (actually that's a good question, might ATS ever come to the Epic launcher?)
People find DLC's to be worth it, I mean if they do keep adding 50 states/beyond, how much is the total cost of game gonna compare to the cheap original cost?
*Also, hears my major question on maps. how does it work if you selectively buy ones?
Such as Texas, but then Montanan, does the game flow nicely without having the concocting states? **(rember i have never played so I don't even know how the transitions are...)**

How is the MP set up? Is it any good?

how about driving, I know I said I would hope to use this a teacher along with game if I make the purchase, but I currently haven't spent the money on a Sim wheel, how is it on keyboard? Is there any point if i play on keyboard?
I have played FS (couple versions) for a while, Flashing Lights, Snow runner, And BeamNG. Drive, and have always found keyboard to be okay, same with ATS or no chance?
I did recently hook up a Drone remote for Farm Sim......
I have heard a couple of people say BeamNg. is better truck driving Sim, anyone agree with that (besides the crash physics?)

DLC's, what is the actual know information, Is the 50 states actually going to be done, or no, will everyone see their home state, or only some? How long would it take?
Will the thus total cost of ATS in future be reasonable?

How about the Demo, any info on that u can give is great!
Will it give me enough of a feel in the simple time trial period?
It is 2 hours IRL and then you can't enter it again right?

THANK YOU ALL TO ANY HELP YOU CAN/DO PROVIDE!!!
In Thanks,
S45=God is good! :)

The game, if you use a wheel and pedal setup, can be an alright tool to do some practice maneuvers in a CMV. But nothing will beat the real deal when it comes to actually driving one. But if you want to use it to practice backing in docks or something, then have at it; it'd be good for that.

The map is scaled to 1:19, so some things are not going to be represented in the game. But they do give a general idea of the highway system when travelling. In real life, always keep a paper map/atlas handy and study the GPS route.

The DLC's do go on sale fairly often. So if you wish to wait for a sale, by all means. It's up to SCS Software if they want to bring the games to EGS, but at the moment, I doubt it.

You do not need to buy a connecting map DLC if you wish to buy one. However, you can only take jobs from within a state and can not take it out of the state to which you do not own. So, if you have Texas by not New Mexico and no other state around Texas, you can only take a job within Texas (via fast travel there first, or quick jobs) and stay in Texas. That's it. There are no roads that connect through all states available.

I've played Convoy a bit here and there and the mod support is nice when everyone has the same mods. However, if playing on a pure vanilla profile, it can be nice to join up with others to truck with and pick up the same jobs or something.

Madkine answered the last bits, so I'll leave it at that.

Plays fine on keyboard, I have 700+ hours that way.
State DLC's will continue as long as we keep buying them. If we stop, they stop.

You can play the demo as long as you like, but you need to start over after a short period of time.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I wouldn't suggest any sort of VR simulator as "training" for real life. Fantasy is fantasy, reality is reality - and on the road, people's lives are on the line. And ATS is (IMO) straddling the line between arcadey driving and simulation. At best, you're only going to be able to pick up on some broad concepts, which you'll master within the first few hours of behind the wheel training anyhow. At worst, you could end up picking up bad habits that will get you into trouble on the road.

As far as the online community goes, they've been fantastic from what I've experienced so far. Never really seen people get into beefs, not a whole lot of foul language, and they're generally really accepting of anybody from any background or age. Biggest problem I run into is that people will join convoy servers and then just go do their own independent runs, and a lot of people just want to get to the destination as fast as they can - ignoring traffic laws and often wrecking because the game glitched or they couldn't make a pass and were going too fast to compensate. Not a huge deal, but if you're lucky you'll meet a good batch of drivers who try to keep the convoy together as much as possible, follow the traffic laws, and generally just have a really chill game.

Okay, makes perfect sense. Thanks Madkine for the quick and simple reply!

TwinShadow, Thank you also for the very informative reply, covering what Madkine didn't specifically cover.

I completely agree with what you are saying, thank you for adding to my 'theory'.

Alright makes sense, 'm curious cause I haven't yet done much traveling, but quickly learn routes i take often, (IRL & Games) so was curious if it would actually help, or hurt me possibly in future.

What you said makes sense until that last sentence, not your fault but im kinda stupid, could you try explaining this last sentence again please? "There are no roads that connect through all states available"?

Cool, Thanks
(Anyone) So ohw does progress work, on same games it all goes to just host, some to all players, ECT?

Thank you very much TwinShadow

Off of my topic, Can someone explain how to guote separate sections of a text/replay, and replay? As you can see I tried to do like TwinShadow did, but mine just went into his replies??
TwinShadow Aug 6, 2024 @ 12:44pm
In regards to what I mentioned about the connecting roads, more specifically, people were wondering a while back how states were handled if they were to be separated. For example, Oregon and Washington. If you don't have Oregon, there's not a basic road going through Oregon to get to Washington from California for as an example. I think I heard it as a request a while back, but that was not going to happen. So essentially, if you want to travel through Oregon to get to Washington, you need to own Oregon at the very least. This is the case for any state connecting another around one. Hopefully that makes more sense.

Now, for the quote replies I did, it's really simple. I used to admin some forums here and there, mainly phpBB and SMF, but they all work similarly with how it works, and the Steam forum is no exception.

Goes like that. I just copy/paste the opening quote, and all I do is type out [/quote] at the end of where I want to section off and keep going. You can also just drop the =Person's Name from the opening quote and it'd just be a regular quote box.

[edit] Ok, I did not expect quote tags to be rendered inside of a code tag. Go figure... Well, one can quote this post and just look at what is within the code tag itself to get an idea of what I'm doing.

To be fair, I did ask, and you answered; & besides playing the demo, I haven't played much of ATS I have to disagree. I think its all about your choice, I 100% agree a game/simulation can't beat real life -However, look it up a lot of people have said they have used this as training (which is why I asked) and according to google a trucking company was more likely to hire yo if u said you played ATS ( *NOt SAYING THIS IS A GOOD THING!)They use flight Sim for pilots, ECT.
However, IMO, it comes down to how you want to play, and it really can teach you. Not saying its wrong, But I have never played killing, mincraft, roblox games, ECT.
I prefer Simulations, I have played farm Sim(couple versions), Snow Runner, flashing Lights, BeamNG.Drive, Drone sims, and more for the experience and teaching, FS its self teaches a lot. Same with snow runner, really teaches yo to handle mud, speed, steering ECT.
-Don't get me wrong, I have used some crazy mods, beamNg. lets you reset everytime you die, (not in IRL) , but again, *IMO* its your choice, do you comprehend IRl VS online? Do you think shooting people is okay IRl? (Thats why i personally have never had interest in such games), i know when I take a FS mod that makes it easier than IRl, it's not. But I know that, I'm not saying you have to agree, just want you to understand where I'm coming from, and wanted to politely express my opinion.
As far as the community, I am Happy to here those have been your findings!
Thank you for your insight BoozeJunky, God Bless.

@HOLY_RHINO ,
Gave you 2 awards saucy and purple tiger. Before the community gets me banned I give you rest of my points. Also the community on this discussion isn't very friendly, give your topics more time and you will see what I'm talking about. Good luck with your future gaming.

For anyone curious, I have played the Demo, (8/17/2024)
and as to today, the date above. ^^^^^
You can currently play 4.3 hours of the game until it requires you to buy the game.
