I ran pro mods for ets2 because it included the north of Scotland (I live in the Highlands) and never noticed, guess I must have been doing the contracts that weren't on World of Trucks :)
As for jobs, External Contracts and External Market does only work within SCS map (base and DLCs). Quick Jobs, Freight Market and Cargo Market should work as usual, though.
You should've be able to Quick Travel to Vancouver right after installation. No need for "using old mod" or buying garage for fast travel purposes. Quick Travel takes you to the Repair Shop (purple wrench icon).
Main reason for these key cities is to make it possible to have map DLCs that are not connected to the base map (California, Nevada and Arizona). There are no roads between the base are and the not-connected DLC. No road means no driving between these "islands" and no jobs between them. Some years ago SCS made it possible by inventing these key cities and made it possible to at least quick travel between these islands.
Key cities are "clickable" on the Quick Travel and Quick Jobs map even if they are not "discovered" normally yet (still grey name).
