FPS dropping, "slow motion" effect, no stuttering at all
Hi, I come to y'all for help or at least orientation of what to do, I got a weird problem, on cities, and only on cities i got a "slow motion" effect on the game, from going at 60 fps stable drops to 49-38 fps on worst scenario, on mods (Reforma map) even dropping to the low 25 fps, i tried too many things, the obious one was to drop all settings to the lowest, got no effect, drop down the resolution, nothing, nvidia panel control on lowest quality and high performance, still no change, damn, even on a vanilla profile keeps doing the same, and well, it isn't unplayable, but quite annoying, bc while i'm downshifting i miss the gear and slow down the way the throttle reacts (i use steering wheel and h sifter on unsynchronized transmission mode), and even trying to set the fps on 40, on game or in the nvidia control panel, just keeps at 60 fps and dropping on the cities, another thing i noticed is the gpu and cpu usage, when at 60 fps is at 80 to 85%, maximum 90%, but when it drops, the gpu usage drops as well to 45-55%, the cpu do the same, at 60 fps never passes about 75% of usage on the first thread, and overall keeps at 40-50%, when it drops to 40 fps, drops the first core usage to 40-50%, ram doesn't top,not even vram tops off, keeps arround 2.7-2.8 gb of usage, the thing i noticed is the rendering latency, goes from 16-18ms at 60 fps and goes up to 30-35ms when the fps drop, and no, i cleaned up the desktop and the mod and screenshot library, no change, nvidia geforce experience shows me the drivers are up-to-date as well as windows update, powerplans at maximum performance, disabled the screen optimizations for the game, etc, i got this problem since 1.49 (the last update), so if you have any clue, please let me know
my specs are:
intel core i7-2600k at 3.5ghz
16 gb of ram ddr3 at 1333 mhz
evga geforce gtx 1060 3gb
motherboard gigabyte ga-h61m-ds2 rev 4.0
ssd adata su800 1 tb (with dram)
hdd western digital green 7200rpm 1tb
psu 410w (non 80 plus, and i know it could be risky to have it, but i got a regulator)
windows 10 pro 64 bits 22h2
monitor auria 27'' 60hz (1080p native, i play it at that resolution)
thanks in advance, have a good day

Map mods we can not fix (contact the mod author for help).
As for the rest: Reduce your graphic settings down to low-medium and deactivate SSAO and set your scaling to 100%.

Though you should eventually upgrade your CPU and RAM.

Habe das selbe Problem seit 1.50!
Ryzen 7800X3D
4070ti
32GB Ram
Samsung 980 Evo NVE!

Glaube nicht das es am System liegt!
Am schlimmsten ist es im Konvoi!

Instead of trying to force your hardware to run beyond it's capabilities, why not change your settings and aim for a steady 40fps by lowering the detail settings, turning off TAA and SSAO, set the scaling to 100% and making sure your GFX drivers are up to date. Limit the fps in the game or in Nvidia control panel, so the gameplay is smooth, then you can experiment to see how good you can get it to look without frame drops.
The game has a new render engine and your old settings will not be compatible with it, all the complaints about ver. 1.50 stem from users not adjusting their system and settings, not the update or the game.
I can verify that ATS and ETS2 will run at a constant 60 fps on an RTX3060 12 Gb/Ryzen 5 2600 @ 2560x1440, and I have the videos to prove it, posted here a number of times.
PC's are not consoles, you need to be able to adjust the settings and system for best results, and games stress them more than anything else.
Your hardware is getting a bit out of date and will be slipping even further behind when the next update to the graphics comes.

That's what I thought, the cpu and ram could be bottlenecking the system, I tried last night to set it at 40 fps on nvidia control panel, and I saw it happening constantly, only that "slow motion" effect, but even worse, dropping below 30 fps, american truck simulator is the only game that does that, I run also forza horizon 4, the crew 2, and asseto corza, all of them at 60 constantly, droping to 55 on the woods sometimes, I guess I should stop gaming on ATS until I upgrade my setup, bc even at 25% of scalling do this same problem, ssao and antialiasing deactivated (never use them anyways) and all settings to low except for reflex at high and scalling of reflex at 50%, i tried dropping it down with no change, the only thin I saw to have effect is shadows, but deactivating just gain me about 4 to 5 fps, anyways, thanks for answer

I know, my setup is older, but I'm on a budget, where I live, the prices of motherboards, ram and processors are super expensive, and I'm going to move to the other side of my country to buy a new home, the work here is pretty bad, and bad paid, so for now, upgrading is out of discussion, of course you can have a good gaming experience with the right setup, but at least for me, is near impossible to buy an RTX graphics card, I'm willing to buy a 6 gb 1060, is more budget friendly for me, and after I move and start working again, I could bought a ryzen 5 5600g or something similar, and 16 gigs of ram as well, but for now, not an option

Your processor is better than mine and ram is the same. My card is a 6gb 1060 though and I am getting no slow downs on 2x scaling with everything on high/ultra so its likely your card that is slowing things down and causing the lagging through low gpu memory. Although I wouldnt have thought it would make that much difference to cause lagging.

If they still use a 2600k I think all hope is lost. That cpu should be donated to a museum.

Heeeeey, well, I know is old, but I bought it about 3 years ago while the pandemic was on and prices were skyrocketing, even the ssd I bought then cost me twice of todays prices, the gpu was even worse LoL

I should check it, I thought the processor could be bottlenecking, but could be the gpu as well, idk, but still could be a good thing to upgrade for more age-proofing my setup

i7 13700 and rtx4080 too random drop fps after update in ETS and ATS. 30% gpu usage and 24% cpu with lock 90fps... update is a cr4p

I wonder how many people are running Municipal Police traffic and Jazzycat traffic mods? There are numerous reports that these ai traffic mods are causing the stuttering issue that people keep mentioning even if they are so called updated for 1.50.

I don't run ai traffic mods. Haven't ran jazzycat in years(from at least 1.38) because of how awful it made my game run. Never ran the municipal police mod.

This is how I have my game set up. Using an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 12GB.

What I find that works best is renaming the config.cfg file to like config_backup. Game will create a new one when launching. This will reset your graphic options. Close out of the game.

Now open config.cfg file in Documents/American Truck Simulator folder with notepad and make the following changes:
uset r_buffer_page_size "30"
uset t_averaging_window_duration "240" <-- set to you monitor default refresh rate
uset t_averaging_window_length "120" <-- set to double the fps that I locked the game to which is 60.

My in game graphics settings are at Ultra(Mirror distance is high). Individual settings are:
Refresh rate: Default Refresh
V-Sync - Disabled
FPS Limit: 60

Scaling: 400% <-- personal preference
AA: TAA
TAA Tuning: Adaptive Clarity
TAA luma sharpening: 1.50
SSAO: Disabled

Individual graphics below this is personal preference along with having SSAO on. I hate the screen door look it shows on trucks like the W900 where you can see the hood so I disable it. SSAO is also known to eat up frame rates.

CPU: Intel Core i5 13600k
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz(kept from my previous system)
GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 12GB
I specifically went with DDR4 when I built this system last year because DDR5 was still out in left field with extremely high prices.

Ikr?, jazzycat made my sistem run worse back on 1.29, since then I don't use it, reforma map on the other hand... Still fun to have it, driving through cananea and going down to magdalena de kino is the best route, you can saw the real potential of a truck there, sadly I can't play it better now, but still fun when is running fine

Do you have enabled high performance mode on your power plan ?? If not, enabel it, should fix it, if not, try a custom setting on nvidia control panel, there have pleny of tutorials on youtube for your graphics card, also, check if your ram is at full speed, as well as the cpu and gpu, other thing you can do is check if the ram is fully usable, sometimes get some part of the ram for integrated graphics, if you have the game installed on a hdd, try installing it on a ssd, should do the trick, if anything from above works, check for background programs running on priority, you can do it on task manager, on windows menu, right click and task manager, also, if your cpu and gpu are overheating, then there is your problem, your components are underclocking to avoid damages, if happening, send it to a computer shop, if you want to do it, check a tutorial first, almost all the time the thermal paste is crumbled and dry, making the heat dissipation worse, other times is just dust clogging the dissipator (or radiator in case you have liquid cooling), you can run a test on msi kombustor with the help of msi afterburner and riva statistics, I check it with those, helps a lot, you can check the tutorial of how-to-do it, hope it helps
