ATS and ETS2 Game Engine
Are these games using the same game engine..I guess that is what you call it. I use mods in both games..however..ATS seems to run better FPS..I am even using C2C, Montana, Canamania and Reforma. I am able to play 1 to 2 hours with very little drop in FPS. In ETS2, I am using all of the available map DLC put out by SCS, I use default trucks, I think I have a total of 30 mods but FPS seems to lag way slower than it should. I'm lucky to play 5 minutes before I have to save it for fear that the game will crash,. I verify my files before I play each time. Also I have had to remove sound mods in ETS2 because I am getting major feedback or break ups in the sound. I do not have that problem in ATS. I have looked at the game log for ETS2 ..I have a few warnings. I keep removing a mod at a time in ETS2 thinking that will help but so far no improvement. I even have a profile with no mods and it still lags.. any help would be appreciated

They use the exact same engine, Prism3D.

Mods can affect your FPS and none of your mod issues are a responsibility of SCS to fix.
If you have FPS issues then you need to lower your settings.

First..I realize that SCS has no responsibility regarding mods... My settings are lower that ATS..Graphics are set at Default refresh, Vertical Sync enabled..screen flickers when disabled, Scaling 50%, SMAA, SSAO, and DOF disabled, Reflection scaling and detail medium, Vegetation Medium, Grass density High, Shadow Quality Medium, Weather quality High, Mirror quality and distance low, Texture Quality High, Anisotropic filtering 4% and light visibility Medium. I am using Grimes frosty mod and fix..and his parameters for his mod are higher than I have on.

Euro Truck has much denser scenery .. that's all. American Truck is just less dense.

That more sounds like your hardware is in need of upgrading. What are you specs (CPU, GPU, RAM)?

I think you are right...all other games I play run really well

Wolfgang..here are the Specs that I could find....I know the computer is an older model..Windows 10 Home....64 Bit..Intel Core i5 - 4440 CPU....Installed RAM 12.0 GB

And your GPU? You can also see your specs by clicking on "Help" in the Steam Client, and then clicking on "Systeminformation". Wait a bit and then mark everything with CTRL+A, copy with CTRL+C and post it here via CTRL+V.

Edit: Your CPU is already below minimum specs.
Edit 2: Nvm, it seems to be very close in capabilities as the minimum spec CPU. So it highly depends on your GPU.

Yeah, the issue is your integrated GPU. Not only is it not meant for gaming but it is also from 2013 so heavily outdated and below minimum specs.
If you can you should get a used dedicated GPU for your system though you should upgrade very soon as you are basically below minimum specs. The future updates for the game are likely to leave you behind further.
As for FPS issues: Only current solution for you is bringing everything down to the lowest setting possible.

The system has at least a PCIe 16x slot and a 460Watt PSU. Additionally, it doesn't use a proprietary PSU, so changing it up for a more powerful one if a new videocard requires that would be an option.

Thank you all for your helpful responses..it looks like I have some decisions to make. Happy Trucking !!!

Yes you need a dedicated GPU to run games comfortably. ETS2 is kind of heavy on the graphics side of things. I used to play on a laptop.... and the experience was sloshy at best but I still enjoyed it. Having a full gaming PC now makes such a huge difference but even now the game still suffers FPS drops occasionally! It is way smoother overall though

I'm going to suggest a couple of changes to you specifically. This more than likely will not work for the OP.

1: Go to Documents/American Truck Simulator and open config.cfg with notepad. Scroll down to uset r_buffer_page_size "10". Change the 10 to 30.

2. Scroll down to the bottom to uset t_averaging_window_length "20". A good starting point for this is double your monitor refresh rate. Example if you have a 75Hz monitor then set this to 150.

Save the changes and then try the game.

I am reading these posts from my laptop and a chill runs down my spine! I am going to be left behind when the new versions of ATS and ETS are released! :steamsad::steamsad::steamfacepalm:

That's why you build it right from the start. My backup PC is 6 or so years old and it still doesn't have any issues with games.
