Road block - what to do?
Today for the first time, I encountered a road block (literally).

While driving on a highway near San Francisco, came upon Highway Patrol having the road completely blocked off (looked like an accident up ahead). There was no place to squeeze through on either side (I tried), highway divider on one side and guard rail on the other.

Wasn't sure what to do so eventually I just called a tow truck. Anyone else encountered this?

Turn off "detours" in the settings.

It's a detour. Find your way around it on another route.

Thanks for the suggestions. It was a divided highway so the only option to keep driving would have been to turn around and go the wrong way, and I didn't want to lose my virtual license :). I will also consider changing the settings.

If you knew how to use the dev console you could teleport over the detour. That "feature" is not really suitable for ATS, there's not enough of a road network to do detours properly. In ETS2 there are little roads everywhere and I'm sure you wouldn't be taken too far out of your way, but I have it turned off there too... just cuz!

I leave random incidents on but I have detours turned way down and I will likely turn them off as while detours happen irl, they do not translate well in the game. For example, heading towards LA on I-10 from Arizona and hitting a road block at I-15, I would not have to go all the way to San Diego to get around it IRL.

I recently ended up driving almost an extra 75 miles to make a delivery in Albuquerque because ALL the ramps in all directions were roadblocked at the I-25/I-40 interchange.

The GPS kept rerouting me back to the first blocked exit ramp.

There are other exits. You have plenty of options.

The block wasn't at an exit ramp, if that's what you mean. It was in the middle of the highway.
I had an interesting experience trying to go around a roadblock by going through the grass. I've done this before and it may ding me 1-2% damage on the truck and trailer, but it's better than taking a 100 mile detour. Sometimes you can even creep by the barriers and vehicles. Well, I don't know what happened, but today that all changed. I rolled around the roadblock on I-40 and when I got back on the pavement, my truck and trailer were literally shaken to death as if I was being hit by a10.0 earthquake. My truck, trailer, and cargo were damaged 100%. The truck actually stood on it's grill as if it had been dropped from the sky. I had to be towed to the nearest shop where my repair bill was $130k and I had to abandon the cargo because it was a total loss. I wonder if this was just a glitch or if this is something new with the release of 1.38.

Most loads can get past a road block - as long as you are already not close enough to make manoeuvring paste difficult or impossible due to your trailer positioning especially for doubles, triples and heavy cargo loads

If you can take the detour, then it is often best to check the map (M) Key and plot a way around the diversion. Never blindly follow a navigation device even in the game. :104:

If you have missed the detour point, then stop and exit the game. When you restart the game the detour should be gone and you can travel on your way.

As someone else has already mentioned if you are NOT doing an external contract on WoT, then you may also be able to use console to leapfrog past the detour obstruction and continue on your way.:honkhonk:

@TimTim3000,

Could you have possibly missed the "Detour Warning" that flashes up before the actual Detour is in view, allowing you to exit before the Detour. I ask because I've never seen a Detour that didn't allow a legal option to avoid it.

I've always been allowed to either avoid it, or if I felt adventurous enough to try any slip through, like the pic I posted earlier.

Yes, it's possible (maybe even probable) that I missed some sort of warning. I do tend to get distracted sometimes. I ran my truck into a guard rail while gazing at scenery the other day :).

Another possibility was that it was one of those random events that block a single lane (accident with dismounted motor officer directing traffic) and the AI traffic got dumb(er) and blocked the other lane? I’ve never seen a legit roadblock not be right next to an exit. Not saying it didn’t happen, just exploring other possibilities.

for you drivers rubber necking and hit guard rails... the real in life reason is you were trying to avoid the deer that ran across the road.
